How commited are you? If not 110% then spending 25k will be the worst investment you can make. With only 1 month of experience you should go for a Silverback, Solis or Raleigh. You have nothing else to compare it to so it will be the best bike you've ever ridden.

im in the process of investing in a road bike but am confused on which bike too buy.so far my choices are between the cervelo soloist team or the giant tcr carbon.is it a wise move or must i look at other choices.

go to the best bike store nearby and talk to a professional cyclist.

the most important thing is how it feels when you ride it and that the size is correct.

It must also be up to the task ie. do you intend racing it and at what level?

Buy an entry level bike for much less now, then when you need it, move up to something more expensive. Don't buy something because it's pretty.

If this is your first bike, by a cheaper mtb until you are comfortable on.with bikes and bike setups.  (YOu will always use a mountain bike)

But if you are intent on burning 25k on a bike, three things:

first, get a proper set-up some shops will try and sell you a bike that is too big.

Second, do some research, buy the best frame possible, this is the most expensive bike part of the bike

lastly, shop around,

Queens has a new Eddy Merckx frame with nondirectional carbon mat finish, very cool, that will build to a bike of about 23k.

You can bet a ciocc or pinerello from Maestro imports, which is very exclusive.

You can get a alu tommisini from Bruce, also an exclusive machine

Try a litespeed titanium.  (Ti is solid)

THen there is colnago, bianchi, willers, Kona (?!), specialised, ext ext

Many people will not agree with me, but at R25 000.00 you are going to get a quality bike no matter what the brand. I'm will to bet that most of us wouldn't even feel or notice any difference between brands at that price anyway.

Buy the one that looks the nicest

try to offer some constructive advice-looks are not what counts!!Disapprove FFS.

If you do not know the benefits between a monocogue design and a lugged or Treks black and red carbon, the paint job will be the salesman.

If looks were not important businesses like Cycle Art would not exist and Pantani's bike would be red!

Go back a few pages and read my advice to the person asking for it!Angry

I did read your comments earlier and while I do agree that the chap should buy a cheaper bike now, I don't agree with the looks part.

As some have mentioned already if it's ugly you are always going to wonder about your choice.

Whilst you may not agree with Eugenes comment many here do.

the most important thing is to be 100% sure that you are comfy with the feel of the bike and at this kind of capital outlay i would definitely recommend test riding boht your chosen options and chose based on which feels the most comfortable. the geometry of different desings makes a differenct to how you're going to sit ont he bike and how it's going to respond to steering etc. while looks do count they MUST NOT be the be-all-and-end-all of your choice. at the same time if you detest red then do not buy a red bike unless you're willing to send it to cycle art for a paint-job.

as everyonehere knows i am a giant fan - i ride a tcr and if i was still riding seriously i would've been saving up for the tcr advanced.

If you buy a bike simply based on aesthetics, you are going to be very upset with your purchase in the end.

Also, if your prepared to go out and make a R25K purchase the first time, then you really need to get your 'ducks in a row'

Go to a bike shop (ie Cyclelab) and discuss the intended riding with someone in the know. Just purchasing a Cervelo coz its widely accepted as a great bike is foolish. If you have never ridden a proper racing bike, you are not going to be comfortable on a Race ready machine like that. Your money would be better spent getting a slightly less expensive bike, but something thats going to work for you.
