No Events to take place on Ou kaapse & Boys in summer!?

Recommended Posts

Well, at least one Southern Suburbs event is on track. After a small eternity of trying to get a route for Journey 4 Sight n Service approved, we've confirmed it for January the 6th.

The bad news for some is that we have just one route of 50 km, starting in Fish Hoek.

We tried (oh, how we tried) to get as close as we could to our usual distance of about 70 km. Figure 8: No, too dangerous. Laps: No, too dangerous. Detour into Cape Point Nature Reserve: Out-and-back routes not allowed.

In the end, we've been left with a circular route that covers much of the South Peninsula part of the Argus route.

Any more info on this race? (Starting venue, which direction it heads out etc? )

Thanks

Why don't PPA organise a form or website for us / league riders to fill in to see what we want from PPA???

We don't want same route year after year... Getting bored! We need more longer rides like One Tonner, Double Century (getting so popular)

MTB stages are so popular, so why can't they do same for road races.. Find a good town with camping ground and have 2-5 days races..

We can have 3 laps over Red Hill = 90km in south suburb....

I am thinking of hanging up my bicycle and retire.... because nothing changed.....

MTB'ers willing to fork out 4K for 3 days....roadies....willing to pay R500.

I am sympathetic to the PPA / organisers of the races in the Peninsula. The traffic down here is something of a disaster and Boyes Drive and Ou Kaapse weg are groaning with the additional volume of cars. Lets just let this year go and get the roads back to normal and then its business as usual. If the organisers tried to use Boyes / Ou Kaapse there would be a public outcry and we may get racing permanently banned in the south (just like they closed Chappies & Constantia Nek to racing years ago.

Good pts! But if you see MTB races, they provide food, accomodation, vibe and etc - not Road races!!

We need to do similar to MTB races...

I do understand but roadies is different, you just cannot do "the same" for roadies. unsure.png

A few examples:

  • Most guys will freak out if they have to leave their bikes overnight in a bike park
  • Canot stay in a tent I need transport to race everyday from my B&B
  • I want full road closure

If I do not get these "basic" things I am not willing to pay more than R500...biggrin.png

But does not mean PPA could not have been pro active to have made a plan B and organize events in the Northern suburb - even now their is still (just) enough time to do this if they really wanted to serve the ROAD cycling community instead of just take 50% of the profits (millions per annum) of the Cape Argus Pick 'n Pay ROAD cycle tour and use it on other ares than ROAD cycling including a large reserve fund!

The issue for me is the amount of moola they're sitting on.

What could have been offered to the League and fun riders with the current routes being unavailable, beyond the status quo?

How cool would it be to see the Giro back on the calendar?

Or something close to it?

It is obvious that CSA cannot fulfil this.
