Ok there have been a few Pyga threads here and really good reviews in the press about the One 10 29'er. But it still seems to be trail bike and I'm not sure it would make sense to choose a Pyga if you werent riding trails all day. Thoughts please since I have to add I'm dead keen to get a Pyga nonetheless.

Unless you are (or intend to be) a serious podium threat, you can use pretty much any bike for XC/marathon. I could think of far worse options than a Pyga OneTen!

I'll certainly be using mine for racing... And pretty much any other riding too. Go on, buy niche, you know you want to!

Agree on the podium statement. i did test one.. was flippen heavy! Handling perfect! Thinking about the zero 10 though and not his heavy full susser brother for marathon and stage racing.. If you spend serious dollar on the one ten build you might get it under 12,5kg???

Mines under 12.5kgs and didn't spend serious money. XT/ SLX mix, Loaded wheelset...

Basically what the above chaps said. Unless you going for prize money, this type of bike is actually what most of us should be riding. SA has an obsession with 100mm pure race machines when you can enjoy riding so much more on a well made (& built) trail bike.

Already done loads of Classics, marathons and Berg n Bush on mine. Loving it!

Note: I'm biased.

I'm not a weight weenie, but would love to see the scale end south of 12kg's... when mine is done.

Mine is a medium, I bought the top end build kit direct from Pat, it has XO and X9 on it, with carbon crank, bars etc. Thompson cockpit, 12kgs. Brilliant bike for trail riding/Xc classics, marathons ( hill2hill/berg n bush ) etc. and climbs like a bomb, on a long climb like Friesland Hill I am within 5 seconds on my hardtail 29er and the PYGA.

You mention Thompson cockpit, what all do you include in this?

asking since the handle bars only got launched, mine is in the mail from the states as we speak, will highly potentially be the first Thompson bars in the country, if USPS can move their asses.

Seatpost (Masterpiece) and Clamp is Thompson, stem will also be as soon as I've determined that length I need
