Hey JB, Thanks for seals and oil(s) on Fri for my fork. Job went off perfectly except I destroyed my star nut in the process....

Pleasure. Force the old starnut in deeper and install another one.

I used Catrol LHM hydraulic fluid in my shimano brakes, it worked perfectly and still does after about three years now. my LBS told me to buy that, much cheaper than shimano mineral oil, and I think its basically the same thing??

Its definately not corosive like normal DOT brake fluid.

Just picked up on the forum. I've just installed XT brakes on a new build and the thought of buying 1L of hydraulic fluid at R300 plus, or two Shimano bleed packs at R160 each is making me seriously nauseous. 100% it'll be cheeper to just get the local LBS to do the bleed job. Thanks for the Castrol LHM lead, I'll do my research and see if it'll work.

Anyone heard of Quaxar mineral oil?

Solomon's is selling it and is like R40 a bottle

Rather do the costing on replacing all the seals,,, I am not saying this will happen but pay extra for good brake fluid/ mineral oil the money you save in the long run far exceeds the purchase costs, also keep in mind the fluid has a life span like any oil and needs to be replaced and not forgotten about

In his defence I get LBS sending me Formula brakes on a regular basis having done the same thing in error. I guess it just depends what you are exposed to. There are a lot of Shimano brakes out there, and likely people with less exposure to the different products just ask their circle of mates and get the wrong advice.
