Pants and tops etc again, shop around, some LBS shops have sales on the previous years kit, so you could score shorts for like R250..

Rumour has it there's some livestrong kit going cheap cheap... hell, they may even pay you to take it.

The one in gauteng? Yep that looks crazy good for that price, unfortunately I'm in cape town.

dude, pay the R300 - R400 and get it sent to CT, Otherwise ask a few hubbers who might be travelling to CT over the christmas period.

Any advice on the bikes I mentioned? Giant Revel 0 29er, Axis A40 any others I should be looking at?

Would it help if I were to ask what would the best value bike be for about R6k, medium 29er hard tail, atleast a deore derailer and hydraulic brakes?

okee, the 'sport' category that your price range is in is VERY competitive. There will be 10+ bikes that will suit you. Giant, Titan, Axis, silverback all have very good bang for buck, but nothing stands out as being way better than the rest.

apart from lance being bust for doping there have been no major advances in cycling this year - nothing wrong with 2012 bikes, you might do well to find one that a shop is looking to shift(like the Felt), just make sure it's the right size for you.

at 1.76 you don't HAVE to go for a 29er, many people will steer you that way. If you're price concious then you will find better deals on 26" bikes especially the second hand market.

this good be the one - maybe a bit big but worth looking at

sounds like you really want to mtb off road, so don't take the argus too seriously. slap some slicks on and enjoy it, you'll start in a crap group anyway so it'll be hard to do a good racing time.

The Giant 29er is a good bike. I am however of the opinion that for starting out a 26er hardtail will give you better wheels and components for R6k and you will learn a lot of skills on it. Check out Cycle Factory in the Cape, they have good deals!!

I know,I know however I've got trust issuesblush.png , and yes it can save me but I've had many online deals go sour so I prefer with something like this to buy in person. Chances are if it takes off for me I probably will buy a bike off here once I've been around for longer.

This... makes things harder to choose, but on the other hand atleast there is a choice and that one bike isn't that waaaay much better than the other.

So unfortunately I've run out of time and need to get a bike today before I go away. So would you guys be so kind as to help me ito these 3:

Titan sport 29er http://www.titanraci...m/29rsport.html

Silverback vida 4 http://www.silverbac...CK/vida4_13.htm

Giant revel 0 http://www.giant-bic...59411/#features

I will be going to test these 3 out today, but on paper this is what I've found.

The Giant seems to be the cheapest but the feeling from lbs's I've spoken to is the fork is poor.

The Titan seems good buy except that the component set is one less than the other 2 on the "Shimano scale"

The Silverback to my mind seems the best, except that its a 24speed vs the other 2's 27 speed.

So again with my lack of experience in riding I've narrowed it down on paper to Fork vs Components vs Speed.

I've searched and found a similar thread, and that op bought a GT KARAKORAM 3.0

Any help will be appreciated.

Sorry to do this to you man, but if you've got your heart set on the 29 inch, I do really suggest you consider the Momsen AL129. At about R6,700 it's much better specc'd than that Silverback. Rather spend the extra R700 and make sure.

Thanx, but sorry bud, this whole excersize actually started at a budget of 5k which then became 6k, so I won't be going down that road wink.png

OK no worries, I understand. Then my vote will be the Silverback.
