Tokai tree felling: Snake trails

Ya heard a fair bit from the guys on the trail on on the forum, and understand there is a whole lot of politics involved when it comes to accessibility, machinery and helping hands.

I've been to a couple builds (missed the last two with work and weather), as I realize if you want it done you need to get your hand dirty, but the last one I went to was as you mentioned, dominated by downhillers. Though the trail was a DH trail, some of the features I've been trying to build the confidence and skill to ride, some drops etc, where "repaired" but in the process made even bigger or have nasty lips and now I'll never take them as there is nothing in between to build skill with! Features are either small or just to damn big. Its not the chicken run I'm looking for.

As has been mentioned in the "Vasbyt" thread with the accident last weekend, we need to ride within our skills level. Thus I looking forward to the new style trails to build on my bank of skils so to bridge the gap toward the bigger stuff.

And I'll be there on the trail with my shovel ready to help out where I can!

Yeah I know where you are coming from 100% I want to do the road gap but there's nothing to build me up to it so ja. Get you. As Deon said some of the lips are kind of well... Lippy. So those need to be shaped correctly.

The road gap aside, none of the other jumps are that big, and all can be cased or jumped short with out too much risk of crashing. But we do need more tabletop style jumps. I've always been the kind of rider to build up to the big stuff, not do or die like some, and its only in the last year that I'm comfortable hitting all the jumps full speed.

Just a couple of questions....

Is there a Tokai MTB club?

Have it been tried in the past?

Surely if there is club, clubmembers would be more "willing" to assits with the build days. Also all communication regarding Tokai forest / plantation from the rangers / cape nature can go to the club and the club can adress it?

Funny you should ask Pappa, there is a club bubbling under the surface. I have just been speaking to them about launching with their main aim being as informal as possible but well represented. None of the politics that seems to bog clubs down, you know, the classic "what do I get for my money.." shiaat.

The club, like Tokai the venue, will just provide for people and riding, not LSM levels and upper class hot potatoes. Beer will be the drink of choice, klippies and coke allowed too but if you slap someone thinking you can do karate after one dop, will mean some degrading penalty of sort.

Build days will get special focus, I plan to speak to a few groups about adding value. The volunteer module essentially needs a reboot, next level sh**!

Shut up and take my member fee!

Clubs do add value in the sense that they bring structure and clout to an idea / group of people......
