Since we're on the rim topic here.... I've heard that side wind is extremely annoying when riding with 50mm and that 35mm would be a better all rounder??

What are your thoughts on this?

Thanks for the info Leonard. The wider rim (25mm) is mostly for better strength or does it give better riding comfort as well? Does std 23c tires fit on them

Sorry about the ignorant questions

I find the 50mm to be most uneversal profile. Also a reason why a large number of others use a 45 to 52 mm profile.

I would say in serious stong winds the 38mm would be better yes.

Most of my customers have bought 50's. In 3 years I have only sold 3 sets 38mm.

Also comes down to personal preference. Some guys just don't like deeper sections and others do.

I find the 50 and 60mm best for me.

Hi Jaco

No problem. Ask as many questions as you want.

The wider rim will contribute to more stiffness. Main reason for the wider tudorial profile is to aid aerodynamics which will result in improved rider comfort.

Yes, you run std 23c tyres on them. No need for any special tyres.

Thanks for asking and thanks for answering. Was one of my questions as well :-)

If you have a set of alu training wheels and a set of carbon racing wheels, do you have to change your break pads when switching wheels or can you use the carbon specific pad on the alu rims as well?

It is recommended to replace the pads and have a set for the alloy wheels and a set for the carbon.

can you get away with the carbon pads though with the alu training wheels? Changing pads every time will be a problem!

Hi again Leonard

Do you do any hub options that don't have the clicking ratchet sound? I have dura ace training wheels and I'm used to the silence!

The pads for the carbon rims will not give you the braking power you need on the alloy rims.

Once you get used to it it actually is quite quick and simple to do.

The yellow Swissstop pads say they can be used on both, you would need to test them and see how they work on both alloy and carbon, but they still can pick up little slivers of aluminum in the pad. This is what can tear through the rim on a carbon wheelset.

Only have these with the louder ratchet sound.

We can look at other options and see what is available.

Send me a PM and we can discuss this.

Hi Hubbers,

I have been a bit remiss in not taking the time to praise Leonard and his product.

I purchased a set just before the Jacaranda Satellite race and had quite a bit of stress trying to get them fitted in time for the race.

We discovered that two of the brake-pads supplied were wrong handed (2 lefts instead of a L/R pair)

I called Leonard and he immediately said - just purchase a new set and I will re-imburse you.

That saved the day and I was all set to go racing.

Leonard duly kept his word and deposited the cost of the new pads as promised.

The pleasure of dealing with a reliable supplier just further enhances the satisfaction of owning a quality product.

I am no race snake but can report that my two races to date with the Concepts have been PBs although it is hard to judge the improvement just from riding.

As far as the wind questions go - there is a little bit more side force than I had with the aluminium wheels previously - which was well tested in this years Amasova - but it is not material and should not be a factor.

Probably the biggest improvement is the looks - pic follows to show it happened :)
