Cool. I'm running a 30mm Outer width rim so it may *just* work. Will make the measurements on the front n rear for when I next need new tires.

You're welcome to try them for fit when they arrive.

Hilton is an absolute magician! We were fortunate enough to spend the week of the world cup in Karkloof. A week wasn't even enough time to ride all the trails. Here's my (and my boet's) maiden run down BOH. Damn, what a good time and such a beautiful spot.

I realise from your vid that we missed that wallride. Damn. We were just trying to find the next bit of trail after dropping onto the dirt road. Then never noticed it for subsequent runs while pinning it - obvoiusly just looking for a good entry into that dip. Makes sense now because it is super slippery taking a sharp line into it.

Yeah, the first time I rode BOH was a few bikes behind Hylton. What an experience but his recent improvements make this one of the best runs I've ever done.

So I managed to get my hands on a RS Pike, best damn fork I've ever ridden. If you are thinking about getting one, do it, do it now! :)

Your post was the final little push I needed to buy myself a Pike. I've now put a couple of rides on it, and holy crap its good. It is sooooo smooth and supple over the small stuff like roots and square-edged hits. Makes me realise what a POS my Fox 32 was. I was worried that I wouldn't feel any difference from the Fox, but it is night and day. The Pike is like a magic carpet ride.

How does a Pike compare to a revelation?

Pike is coil, Rev is air?

I could be wrong but if you have the RCT/RTC3 (which ever way it is) then the rev and pike have all the same workings. The rev has a 32mm stanction and the pike has a 35mm stanction making them stiffer.

Great pics - did you hit that drop off " Great Fall my China " !!

I just call it the gallows ..

Bike looks sweet

You must be mal my China! You just reminded me that I took a pick with the signage in as well....

I would love to say that I didn’t hit the drop off because of my bruised ribs or because I was riding alone (both true tho) but unfortunately that drop off is just out of my league for now. I took photos of the drop off and proceeded down gravity via the bull runs and up to the pallet drop by the N3 and down through the old freeride trail which is more my league

no.

Pike has the new Charger damper, which is in-freakin-sane. It's also a Solo Air unit, but the internals are vastly different to the Revelation's.

It WORKS. I dunno how, I dunno why - but it feels as if there's a little magician inside that damper assembly just makign it work in all situations. Buttery smooth, almost zero stiction and a for that takes the big hits like a true champ without having to over-inflate it, or run too much compression damping or whatever. It just GRAFTS.

The letters may be the same, in that it can have rebound, compression and other damping characteristics changed through air pressure and damper settings, but that's where it ends.

My bad, assumptions....

Now I have even more motivation to upgrade

I think (read: as far as I know) the Charger and new (2014) Revelation RCT3 dampers are actually fairly similar in terms of how they work, but they're different in terms of what level they can work at due to the additional oil volume provided by that massive bladder in the Charger. It keeps the oil cooler and cleaner, so it's more reliable over the *really* rough stuff than the standard RCT3 (which is also DNA and has Dig Valve and Rapid Recovery).

I can definitely feel my Revelation RCT3 (2014 upper assembly and internals) starting to take a bit of strain on really long descents, but it's incredibly sensitive to small stuff and surprisingly adept at big hits due to the DNA valving. It's pretty amazing how I can run it on Pedal mode and have practically zero dive due to the low-speed compression damping, but still swallow the big hits.

The Pike of course also has those fat and stiff 35mm legs...
