I got my entry in on Monday, now for the training.

I know its a long shot, but if any entrant cannot do IM for whatever reason and are considering giving their entires back to the organisers please let me know before you do. I know of two Hubbers who are on the waiting list and would be greatful if they could do a transfer of entries to their name. Thanks!

As far as I know there is no policy like that (transferring entries) in place, hence the waiting list. As I think JGR mentioned earlier in the thread, now that it is sold out the waiting list is a fair way for people to gain entry. I checked this morning, more than 400 people on the list already. I'm sure number 1 on that list would not be too pleased if people some way down the list somehow gets in front of him.

:offtopic: Perhaps a more interesting question, is where are all these numbers coming from? I consider my self fortunate to have an entry, but 400 entries on a waiting list out of a total field of 2000 is roughly 25%. Considering that this year didn't sell out (Think this years no was 1700), are we saying that the race has grown by +/- 700 entries?

Haven't noticed a dramatic increase in TT bikes during the weekly training rides..... Did i miss something? Or is the 10 year hype catching?

My guess is combination. Popularity of 70.3 over the last couple years means more people will be making the jump to the full.

Biggest driver is 10year and panic over entries I think :whistling:

Very true, must be the hype...Would be interesting to see whether the international entries have also increased. Did they buy into the hype or would it only be locals?

I think triathlon/Ironman is entering the mainstream a bit more. Lots of guys doing the 70.3 would aim to do the full, so I'm guessing it's a natural progression that the full would grow.

Groups like Embark have done a lot to popularise longer distances in SA.

Also, South Africans are suckers for large scale events (e.g. Argus/Comrades/Two Oceans/etc).

Put people under pressure and they make strange decisions. Most of the entrants would have liked to wait until January to see how the training goes... Now they have made a massive thing of the 10 year anniversary and the moment they started documenting entries are going fast people freaked out and bought entries....

FOMO is a big thing.........

Is there anyone on the waiting list thats received any feedback or correspondence? I really hope to get an entry. Booked flights for me and the family, so i would need to sell 4 tickets if i dont get an entry. That might be tricky.

I really hope that the people that did manage to get an entry is going to be ready. Reading on twitter it seems like alot of people havent event started training. Hope that they have some sort of base to work from.....

Been training for 70.3, was hoping to carry on for my 2nd full if i stayed injury free. Lets hope for the best!

Mate of mine (he is Dutch) once said that South Africans in general always take stuff to the 'extreme', more so than any other nation he has encountered. We are not happy to ride 75km on a mtb, we must do the TransBaviaans and do 230km in a day. We are not happy to do that, we must create the 36One and do 361km in 36 hours etc. etc. Guess something like Ironman appeals to that side of our nature, although not all have the drive and commitment to do the training (entry fees aside).

As I said earlier in the thread I enter when I have the money...So now I'm on the waiting list. Got on there a little late though...think when I 'registered' it said that I was number 136...I emailed Sharon this morning to check whether we can have an update or check our 'progress' on the list. No response yet.

I've also been training and will continue to do so if something becomes available. Looking at the 5% DNS figure quoted earlier I might just not make it though...Maybe the 1st 100 on the list will be lucky. Would have been my 3rd.

I spoke to my contact and he said a lot of the 'entries' where just registrations and not payments. They have 48 hours to pay else they start going onto thewaiting list. Timing is good as pay day is only tomorrow so a lot of people might not have the dosh until then. There is hope for those on the waiting list.
