Sheesh it is tough getting back into routine after last weeks easy week

It looks like my return to training will have to wait. I am on my way home with horrible flu. Cant remember when last my body was so sore. So there goes a good few days of training.

Sheesh, sorry to hear!

At least it is a long way out and a good time for some extra rest if forced upon :)

Last two weekends I hit really hard with training but it was followed up by 1 - week of flu and then 3 days of Gastro. I am going to stop with these insane long rides/runs as it breaks my immune system down and then I get sick. The underlying reason for this is because I don't get time to train during the week. Will need to make changes. Crunch time for training is approaching soon. Weeks 6 - 4 before IM is the most important as far as I am concerned.

Yeah my schedule tends to agree with the majority of the above!

Time to dig deep and keep the head right.

In a big block at the moment and fatigue starting to settle in nicely...

fatigue is good. Shows you are training

I am feeling no fatigue. Instead a bit of panic is setting in - no mid week training happening! And in 2 weeks time I head to cold wet Europe for 3 weeks. Less than ideal timing so my first full IM may be about pure survival....

Yip - consistency with training is the key... doing 1-2 hours every day during the week and then two big (but not crazy) sessions on the weekends is all that's needed. Even if you can't make an hour during the week doing 30-40 minutes of training every day is better than nothing and leaving everything for the weekends.

100% correct.

Maybe you need more rest days (Rest = no training)

The more long distance training you do the more rest you need, the old 1 day off a week wont suffice if you are a normal joe who still has work and family commitments.

Ironman is a one day event, so its not necessary inmyhumbleopinion to string together back to back days of long or hard training.

I think a lot of programs come out of following what the pros do - which is just not possible for the average guy.

I have been following this program http://mos.triradar.com/Training_Plans/12_Week_Ironman_Programme.pdf), using the "time poor" version, but making the long runs a bit longer and adding in a little more cycling. I knew from the outset that many of the 'meatier' programs were just not realistic for me to follow, given my lifestyle.

Its a lot less than most other programs, but it is working well for me, and I am confident that I will be able to go the distance. As Phil Moseley, the creator of it says, its all about consistency, so far I havent missed a session.

Yesterday I ran 23km after work and still felt strong, like I could easily do a lot more, I will push it up to about 30km 4-5 weeks before. Last weekend I did 140km on the bike without much difficulty. This weekend my aim is to do 170. I am starting to think you can get by on a lot less if you have to..
