Does the wind really change that much? So are you saying we cannot even take Saturdays report serious?

Yesterday afternoon the report said rain would hit Cape Town Tuesday evening... this morning I woke up to ride and it was raining...

Normally I agree that the day before is pretty clear, but with this front hovering off the coast it seems to be making for volatile predictions... easier just to not let it stress you at all as probably will be different on race day :)

That's good news. So there is still hope!

please revisit windguru because i have just looked and it has changed

Nope it looks exactly the same.

The scale for the wind speed is in km/h not knots.

Indeed. Wind Guru I find is the most accurate for wind and weather in PE, although it's not great on predicting temps. It updates predictions every few hours, and obviously the less far out the predictions the more accurate it gets.Last year Windguru was predicting light/moderate Easterly wind few days out. On the Sat and even race morning it said we would get a very light Westerly in the afternoon. It ended up a light Easterly on the home stretch. We will only get about a 75% accurate prediction on Friday or so.But as others have said, not worth worrying about the wind as you cannot control that. Just make sure you chose the right wheels if the wind is up!

Good news, one of my mates has got a niggle in his knee and decided to can the race this weekend.

Now I know that you can't just sommer do a substitution at this late stage, but since he gets nothing back for it I might as well take his entry on. Kind of like the argus where loads of people ride under someone else's name and take a chance.

What sort of id check do they do at registration? We're similiar age and both white males so I think I can go undercover and get used to people calling me a different name for a weekend!

Don't do it for a whole lot of reasons.

Both of you will be banned from IM world wide for life.

Back to times: I was originally thinking sub 12, but am now expecting to be happy with sub 12:30... In reality, my main goal is to start on the run after less than 7:30, got absolutely NO idea what the run (walk?) will be like due to ITB issues (longest training run has been 23km's  ). The best I can hope for is about 4:15 I guess, which would put me under 12, but my current expectation is I'll probably be quite happy to go under 5hrs (assumption being the second half of the run will be 50/50 hobble and walk).
