anyone know how to escalate at the National Complaints commission ?

summary: Clutch / gearing problems

Bakkiie goes in R3000 for the Master cylinder

broke down

Bakkie goes in again - they bleed and refill

Broke down

Bakkie goes in again R4000 and replace the Thrust bearing

now it grinds going into first

Get a call to say R2500 is now needed to replace the synco mesh on first ?

oh my :(

Mike > Northgate area - it is a bantum

eish you miles from me. what was the original gear problem? was it grinding going into first before you took it to them? which bantam is it, the mazda 323 shape or the later one?

In future, take your bakkie to B&G motors. They are behind the Total garage on the corner of Malibongwe & President Fouche drive (so just down the road from you). Speak to Boeta. The place is rough and ready but the service is amazing and the prices are unbeatable.

Opel quoted me 4grand to 'fix' my aircon a while back, these guys fixed it for free while the car was in for a service anyway.

You cant go wrong.

Cut your losses and find another mechanic. I have a small workshop & if I work like that I'll be out of business in no time. A good mechanic will diagnose the problem quickly.

Later one - no it would not go into gear when I took it - actually it would it would do like a rolling start if it was in gear - and could not find 1st and 2nd - the changed the master head and it was cool for 5 km parked and then went back and it would not go into gear again - then they replaced the thrust bearing and all was cool - however had an issue grinding when I set it in first while the clutch was in :( and we are here

Those bantams also bend / break the control forks - the arm that moves the clucth plate around. Often misdaignosed - have yours checked (by a new mackie please)

If you feel strongly enough about it I would suggest taking your complaint firstly to RMI, a franchise like this is almost sure to be a member and let them work through it on your behalf.

I would suggest perhaps taking the car to a specialist gearbox repair facility, they are usually a lot more geared (excuse the pun  ) for these kind of faults, most likely the agents would have just sent it there anyway, they would seldom get involved in this kind of repair.

this one has a concentric slave with the thrust bearing built in. no fork. to me it sounds like they were unable to bleed the system properly so have replaced both master and slave, which seems not to have fixed the problem. either the clutch pressure plate has collapsed and wont release the clutch plate properly when the pedal is pressed or there is a problem in the box. unlikely its a synchro ring on first gear.

anyone dealt with the NCC ?

I have - Laid an informal complaint so they phoned the supplier and the supplier jumped around but nothing happened. NCC emailed me asking if they must close it or if I want to make it formal - I filled in the forms and when I tried to get the suppliers details (for the forms) they started jumping around again - That was 2 weeks ago, one more week and I put in my formal complaint if the matter is not resolved.

They are in Centurion - best to go there although I can send you the form and their contact details.

I agree, when I started driving many cars didnt even have have syncro's and we still managed to shift around and drive without them. :D - so Yah, off hand I would guess the problem is in the box.
