We want to do some training for the 94.7 and a runner friend of mine told me the loop you get the best training. Is the start by the hotel and how early in the morning is it save to ride

Reserve opens at 7, and yes, probably the safest place you can ride/hike...

Yup, start at the hotel or at the south entrance at Karee Kloof.

The "LOOP" is only about 8 or 10km long and only the first 2km is "real" training with the tough hill as a start...the rest of the "loop" is almost down-hill the whole way...

Do the whole reserve...it's about 58 to 60km and well worth training for 94.7!!!

Or if it's your first time, do the loop a few times over and then when you feel ready...go back another day and do the whole route. It's tough and not easy, but also fun...everybody suffers there...well I guess almost everybody  also like everybody else says...take enough drink (2 x bottles) and have a good breakfast and take some gel thingies with for a kick in the behind halfway through

Just enjoy being outside in nature (with almost zero cars to attend to)...some animals along the way...and if it's the training you want for 94.7...then it's the training you will get for 94.7...and @ R11 per car and R22 per adult...well worth it!!!

Just please don't go down the hill back to the car park. It is a one way up. Go straight and do the small loop. And there is an awesome long downhill to make you smile. I know it seems obvious but you won't believe how many people go against the one way and go down it.

Only a pleasure F111  will also be there over the weekend...just need to confirm with the guys if it's tomorrow or Sunday :w00t: looking forward to it...living in Heidelberg makes at least this ONE spot easy to get to...LOL

Enjoy and have a safe ride...just check the downhills and don't be a hero on getting the best MAX Speed...the down's are fun, but very dangerous at times... and also keep your eyes peeled for the animals...almost had a nasty "one-on-one" with a Rooi-hart-bees last week...eish!!!

Jip...and as mentioned before...if they get more cyclists going down that one-way, they have another "tick" to ban us from the Reserve...finish the ride with the "loop"...it's fun and very fast doing the last few kilo's.

Take the downhill at 12km (if you park in the main parking from N3 side) cautiously! Some tight corners and with the wind there it can be a bit tricky.

Couple months back on the section just before the small descent to the Kareekloof gate a Zebra and another buck decided that they would each escape in opposite directions as I approached. Problem was that they were on opposite sides of the road and both decided to dart across the road just in front of me.

If a zebra crosses your path try and take the right line.

Sorry, this is the best I can come up with on a Friday.

...and look out for the school kids with the "Stop" signs on the extended poles...

Sorry that's my contribution for this Friday  ...LOL

I went to SBR for the first time on Sunday.... I heard about all the people chatting about the hills and how tuff it is etc... experiencing it for myself, wow... They are tuff!! Especially the one at about the 35-40km mark... Shoowwweeee

Amazing day out with the sun beating down... i now look like a turtle without a shell, but what an amazing experience cycling through the reserve. And of course i set a good example by following ALL the road markings and didn't go down one ways or anything.

SBR will definitely see me again... soon
