Most people are so broken after the long climb that they turn off to take the shortcut

Its actually just one long fast downhill and a small climb back to the main road

Earlier this year when we had the entrance fee crises 'we' ("friends of Suikerbosrand") talked about putting a flyer together to hand out to cyclists at the gate, pointing out these issues, because its going to cause us problems.

Seems like it still has to be actioned on, I will try find the time & energy. It really is a fantastic place to ride.

You guys do good work. Is there an official friends of suikerbosrand group?

There was a loose coalition of interested parties at the time, but there hasn't been any follow up - ie flyer / pamphlet idea to hand out to cyclists at the entry gate.

Personally struggling with motivation in general at this stage of the end game, but will try get a basic flyer together with at least the splab about directions and litter and being very careful on the descents, making sure you have spare tube/inflater, hydration etc, anything else?

But quite trek around if you like most and have maxed out on the big loop. I used to take the short cut but not any more, since it is an issue with the powers that be. Perhaps in the long term we can lobby for that section to be a two way.

When we were there 2 weekends ago, there were a couple of tjops cycling against the traffic on the main loop. I don't know whether they were just repeating hills or wanted a shortcut back to the carpark.

i went there for a hike the other day, i watched a number of people come down the "1 way" back to the car park, not slowly....at a speed... i said to the future ex wife "1 day theres going to be a big crash on this strip of tar"

i always start at the kareekloof side the big climb is in the middle of the ride not at the end

Awesome place to ride. Figured most folks would be taking it easy before the 94.7. Wish I had headed out. I spent three hours on a spinning bike at 70%. Trying to get into the pace of the 600. Super boring, but good training.

You are flying through there

Jip that's flying low  some of our Club riders also get to those kinda times...but for our mere mortals we get through in around 2h40 to 3h00  depending on the wind (and how many beers are in the back pockets...he he he) :w00t: :whistling: ...still a GREAT ride and one of the best places to train in Gauteng...climbing +/- 1100 meters (I think) in such a short ride  eina!!!
