the mere fact these things are easily tunable without breaking a whole fork or shock down makes me wet...

(clockwise) Low-friction SKF seals are new for 2014. High and low-speed compression is adjustable externally and the damper head can be removed with a thin wrench to re-valve the washer stack without disassembling or draining the fork. Al look at the 30's machined stanchion tubes - and of the new dropouts, which now use threaded inserts to prevent damaged threads.

Marzocchi provides a set-screw (left) to lock the spring preload collar of its Moto C2R shock. The Moto's high and low-speed damping clickers are stacked on the IFP reservoir. Removing the valve body gives access to the damper's shim stacks.

Ride.IO has a nicely detailed feature breakdown of the fork. 3 things worth noting:

1. 3 stage compression: high, mid and low speed compression

2. mid is shimmed.

3. the shims are easily changeable and dont require a full fork breakdown.

This thing looks seriously plush in the first bit of travel.. little vid showing how little force it takes to get it to travel (that guy could be on megadoses of roids for all i know.. but ok.. :P )

It's freakin' weird, but I just can't get past the fact that those stanchions look like the ones found on a RS Dart (or [insert cheap fork here]).

Really strange, because Marzocchi used to be the $h1t back in the day....

Ha ha, my thoughts too! Apparently that is their special nickel coating.. trouble is fox made their kashima look so good, anything else looks cheap compared. RS are not even in the game with their black coating..

so just how good then is kashima versus nickel coating PoS? Or are you simply saying Kashima 'looks' better as opposed to performing better both in performance and cost benefit?

Quite funny though, that i've seen moto forks that have DLC on the inside, and Kashima on the outside. RS dumped DLC because the cost benefit wasn't balanced. Also, Fox signed up for exclusive use of Kashima relative to all other MTB suspension brands out there. But again, looks aside, just how much better is it really?

anyways, subjective mumblings aside, i'm super stoked for the new forks and shock from Marzo. But i think the price is going to make my eyes bleed blood and tears :(

I have a Kashima 40 and for me. personally. I think it's the biggest hoax in the history of mountain biking. The do look rad tho.

I know right!

Just when I thought they were breaking away from it with their new "Race Coating" as found on the new 55

Then there were the green prototypes

For ages I never thought I'd get used to black stanchions... similar to the silver, they made me think of forks like the Suntour XCM...

but the 2014 Rock Shox forks have converted me...

But by far, the hottest looking fork at the moment (in my opinion) is the DVO Emerald

... damn, I had a point but I got lost in my own hijack...

oh wait!

My point was, we might get used to the chrome stanchioned Marzo's. In a few years time gold stanchions may look cheap... like gold watches

Why does the knight rider theme song jump into my head when I see that watch? Got to love the name of the watch. Casio Data Bank

hahaha! they should call it the Casio Kashima. It'll be a hit amongst MTBers

Kashima quote typical coefficients of static friction for:

hard anodizing: 0.20

kashima: 0.17

DLC is quoted at 0.1 - 0.15

Relative to hard anodizing, Kashima is miles ahead wrt corrosion resistance. Can't have those sliders rotting away between saturday's and sunday's ride.

Patches:i used to wonder if that 'gold race coating' was a cheaper version of kashima coating, renamed to not upset fox. Kashima comes in differen flavas after all, the gold colored version, and that darker bronze colored version which is the A-grade race spec. IIRC, the 2012 Fox forks came with a darker ka$h coating than previous models.
