Spending a week in Cape Vidal with my dad, brother and a few of their friends, mostly going for fishing.

Anyone know if there are any good mountain biking trails within, say, a 20 km distance? I've never been there so i don't know much about the place.

I'm the only one keen to ride so want to know if it would be worth while to take my bike along.

Thanks

Hi Francois,

Vidal is somewhat isolated and a very sandy area, your closest mountainbiking area will be the town of Kwambonambi and if you make the effort, Richards Bay.

You can go gun it down the road between Vidal and Kwambo on your mtb...when is your intended holiday?

Richards Bay is approx. 50-60(?)kms from Vidal. There's schweeeet MTB routes through the cane fields, banana plantations, timber plantations, and natural forests (with no entrance fees!)....you definitely won't be disappointed. But sounds like taking your bike is kinda forcing the riding a bit....rather make a dedicated cycling trip another time.

Agree with Ed-Zulu and Johan about the crime....rabid-killer-dog may be useful to take along, or entertaining at least. Even in RBay, its not wise to cycle alone, especially since you aren't familiar with the area.

Take a gun. That place is filled with marauding and raiding thieves. I'm serious. Parks board has no way of controlling them and turn a blind eye.

If you referring to monkeys, then yes, monkeys are a problem there... No human thief problems. It's in game reserve area, so not sure if you will be allowed to ride on the entrance road..... Outside of that there nowhere to ride.
