What should I look out for and what problems have you experienced?

Car has 110 000km on the clock.

it was the worst SUV i drove.

I had one as a company car for 3 months and it stank. That auto box is hell, the pick up terrible.

The space and features are great, but the gearbox is a major downfall. General road manners ok. just my 2c.

I bought a 2005 model with 68000km on the clock at the beginning of 2012. Really enjoy the car.

It is NOT fuel efficient (+-8.5km/l ave), though.

No issues thus far.

I own one the 2007 model,

Great car for space, but as one guy mentioned the gear box sucks

dont buy the car if you have a tight budget for fuel.

No issues. Great car overall, just again the gearbox. Sounds like it wants to break loose (over rev ) when the cruise control is on and it gets to a hill.

It is our weekend car.

What didn't you like about the gearbox? Its a CVT so if you put your foot down the revs climbing and its noisey but if you put it into trip tronic mode this can be avoided...

I was expecting around 10 - 11 L/100km

So whats your fuel consumption then? My company currently pays my fuel...

average about 12l/100km.

If i pull the trailer with bikes on it goes up to about 16l/100km

all depends on where you will driving, city traffic its bad, and long road ie. 100km + trips you can get it down to 10l/100km.

great car otherwise, i have the rockford sound system in it. play it loud, you wont hear the gearbox.

The box is a 3/4 speed auto, CVT. The travel of the CVT is limited, the CVT also slows the accelerator pick up as the thing functions off the engine and wheel speed relationship. The dropping of a gear makes it noisy, tiptronic mode doesnt stop the CVT from working it just locks you into one of the gears.

Ok so now im looking at two Forester XT's one manual the other auto..

If I am going to have bad fuel consumption I might as well have it with some turbo fun....
