convert disc brakes from 180mm to 203mm

So I've got 180mm avids (blech) on my cannondale. I'm putting on formula R1's but would like ultimate stopping power.

Is it easy to change the disc from a 180mm to a 203mm? I would imagine its just a matter of putting a 203mm mount adapter on?

then secondly - I'm a lightweight (65kg) - will I notice a big difference between 203 and 180mm?

203mm on 65kg is a bit overkill - If I may.

Momentum = mass x velocity.

I ride Hope X2 on 183mm and Im 85kg - if find it sufficient and I do ride stupid - not graceful.

That being said - the main reason I dont go to 203 is because Im afraid the fork might not handle it.

At 65kg that is a bit less of a problem.

Try it and see - you can always go back to 185 if needed.

Would be keen to listen to your findings. Make sure your fork is rated for it

That is some serious discs for a light weight doing normal XC stuffs...

That being said, just check if the rotor on the rear will not bight in to the frame and saw your rear triangle in half. I know some bike frames cant fit the larger rotors.

Eish. Dude. I'm 105 And formula r1's on 180's stopped me PLENTY fast enough.

My advice - keep it 180. Seriously.

yeh - will save me a pretty penny on new rotors + adapters

I also ride 180 mm upfront, 160mm rear on Prophet and Scalpel, plenty of stopping power even on the steepest descents (Hope x4 though), maybe you should look the brakes?

Lefty should be able 200mm, I don't remember ever reading that it cant...

ed: incorrect correction

Dont know if this helps but here goes : I have 2 x 203mm rotors + adapters in my cycling cupboard - for 2 years now.

X2`s and M4`s provide enough stopping power.

As for the fork rating - I know the Reba can take 203 - but I think the Sid not - think, not sure.

Never dealt with lefty`s but at your weight, in XC application - 180/183/185 should be plenty.

203 is normally for DH and big guys - by big, I mean 115kg + and close to 2m and talented on the downhill.

180 front and 160 rear is standard issue for XC but smaller guys run 160 front 140 rear for some reason?
