Are outdoor events becoming new hotspot for vehicle theft?

Definitely targeting our cycling events. Had the my Bakkie jammed at recent event at Winter Fast One MTB event in Jhb.

Fortunately spotted them whilst jamming my vehicle.

Were they ordinary skelms or dressed as cyclists?

They stole my computer bag from my bakkie in Bloemfontein using the gate remote trick. When we went back after discovering the loss I actually saw the guard who I tipped run away.

 

What does Toyota say about their vehicles being stolen so easily and what alternatives or warnings do they offer? Has anybody ever questioned this?

If you see CCTV how easy it is to steal D4D you would think twice, the hilux, fortunner,quantum ,they all quick quick and yes I owned one, sold it at under 10 000km before Toyota lovers start on me about being a hater,,,PROUDLY I DRIVE A AMAFROK

I heard that some riders leave their keys on the wheel or under the bumper which of course makes it much easier.

It is pretty sad how things are going. The only side of this is at least they weren't hi-jacked. If these guys want your motor they are gonna take it. Surely at least one of these guys had a tracker of some sorts in their car or is that pretty much useless these days? It is a sad day when everything we own is just on a "borrowed" term. I hope the insurance companies take these event organisers to task for this. Unless that is also just a waste of time!!

i was advised that the police offered security at the Sondela race but the organisers did not want them around. as a result 3 cars were stolen and 3 bicycles.. there were no car guards at all on the saturday but they decided to get full on security for the second day of racing on the sunday.... " a bit of after the horse has bolted" if you ask me. This was in Bela Bela an ASG race
