[Event] The Pennypinchers Silverstar MTB Challenge

Guys understandably, change can bring questions, especially when at any event there are always differences of opinion. So I hope this will answer a couple of questions

· The route change was decided because of a number of factors including , safety, logistics , control and so on , riding through residential areas was a problem , so the decision was made to improve the event while considering the cyclists

· I am personally cutting the route with my teams and the help form Pierre and the guys from Kings Kloof. The area has amazing terrain that has not been ridden by most and we have added a number of new sections which will hopefully expose this to riders.

· The majority of sections that has made this route so great have been retained and there are still a number of challenges like the route around the hill that is included. we are in the process of cleaning up as much of the loose rocks as possible , which will make it easier to ride

· The new section across the farm Stall is great single-track and not on farm roads, although newly cut and will take time to settle I think it’s a great addition to the route, some great descents and 1 or 2 climbs.

There is still a tar section that everyone will have to ride to get onto the route, unfortunately there is no other way to get to the Farm, but not over Hill snacks. You cycle on the lower road that leads to the farm. We would love to have taken this out but it is impossible

At the end of the day every cyclist has different tastes and this is the difficulty in creating any route, you need to try and please everyone, I hope what we have done will give everyone something they will enjoy, we believe the new route has better variety yet still retaining as many of the features that have made this event so great in the past. It’s a new route and hopefully will only get better as time goes on

The fnl route map is ready and ASG will load shortly

Entered the race about 2 weeks ago because I had a great time last year , after reading comments on the hub about the changes to this year’s route my boet and I decided to go out there and see if we could make out what was happening before deciding if we’re going to do this year’s race . Luckily met a Darrly or Daren on the route (presume its DFLIP), he was busy on the route with like 30 guys cutting and creating routes. Awesome guy and very helpful. Turns out he is part of the team that are developing Heia Safari up the road into a sport park; they also do the monthly Night mtb series there. I have done 2 of their night mtb races at Heia and loved it, the routes and trails are amazing. So if that is anything to go by we can look forward to some great riding this weekend. He directed us onto some of the new trails for the silverstar race and I must say, although the route is still new and loose, the single-track is awesome and much needed at king’s kloof, there will still be allot of cosmetic work needed after the race and changes to things like the corners but we had a great ride. Re the old route, allot of it still seems to be in the new route, with that crazy hill and descent around the mountain still in as well as some new single track added onto the blue route at kings kloof. I can understand the change because of safety, and he said together with his team they are trying their best to create something good for the race in the time they have. We rode about 30km and it was a tough but great ride. Look forward to this weekend

This is gonna be my first race. Can anyone give me an indication of what the time would be for an average rider? If I go on my times at the vlei(mix of blue and green) I should be doing it in 2h50min. Is there a time restriction in these races?

I dont know this route but you cant predict times over different courses. Congestion and weather plays a big role. Prepare hydration for at least 3h.

Thanks Talus. Are there cut off times by which you have to complete the race? Sorry for all the questions but like I said this will be my virgin voyage.

Usually it will state that on the entry form. Most people will make it if you dont have a serious mechanical. Try not to be too tense and rather enjoy the ride- remember to keep left for the faster guys and everybody will be happy to have you there.

See if you can get last years results and see what the slowest time was.
