This weekend on day 2 of the Botswana Kalahari Challenge, the GoPro started to rattle & hit the mountings ... and I wasn't sure what the heck was going on ... until the GoPro went flying ... :cursing:

So it is a bit of a bumpy, uneven, rocky ride ... but really not that bad

So has this happened to you? And I'm really starting to get ticked of with GoPro - great product with useless accessories!

And it's just impossible to mount the damn thing in one position!

jip it happens. Normal cause by crash of some hit it took previous in its life. I lost my gopro in race earlier the year. Lucky other rider found it.

What do you mean by "impossible to mount the damn thing in one position!"?

What I mean is - I can tighten all the bolts to the point that I can't loosen it - but when I switch the unit on during a ride and accidentally bump (just slightly) it with my hand - the "position/view" it's set to record will change.

Also on a fast bumpy downhill, the camera will slowly start to drop to the side ...

Piece of crap

Who wants to watch a wheel going round and round?

Ive also had it, nothing you can do. Grin and bear it.

Just like Magicshine lights, always start off in one position, and within a few minutes are shining somewhere its not needed

Take it in to action cameras in Randburg, they will most likely change it out under warranty.

Are they the agents in SA? I got the GoPro as a present & have no idea where it was purchased, and I can find out - but the proof of purchase will not exist anymore ...

I use a philips screwdriver to tighten mine and it doesn't budge, I have tested it on a few rocky descents.

My father also uses it on his aeroplane, the angle remains unchanged at speed up to 300km/h.

Yes, possibly they can trace it by serial number but they are really good guys so they may not even ask, they pride themselves on a quality product and customer satisfaction is priority. Had a few dealings with them, including one that broke off a paraglider and they sorted it out, will send their details in the morning.

Ditto for when I attach them to our planes, finger tight doesn't cut it with vibration, even used blue thread lock in the past but that was overkill for normal applications.

What happens when you want to change it to helmet mount?

Have to take out multitool, strip screw, strip moer, shout, throw camera down, buy new Drift HD

I tightened mine with a Phillips screwdriver and had it work itself loose over the course of day one of berg and Bush...it went flying off well going down bezuidenhouts pass! The mount system is a weak point of them

Well I wouldn't try to put a handlebar mount on my helmet to start off with. I've got a separate mount for that...

Stretch, best you get a new fork to smooth out the road. ;)

I have been using Go Pro mounts for about 3 years now and have not had a failure on any occasion. Here is what I do:

prior to mounting the camera, I put insulation tape around my handle bar. This works well, especially when you have fancy carbon bars.

I mount the camera so that the casing and body hangs "down", rather than up. Note, you can flip the image under settings to enable you to record in this position and not having to flip the image later on. This means the camera is not top-heavy as is the case with the normal mounting method.

I never over tighten the mounts. Its plastic and plastic gets compromised under pressure. You then have to live with adjusting the camera from time to time, but with the wide angle it records at the margin for error here is a non-event for me.

Remember to have fun with your camera. If it frustrates you, sell it. There is no point in using a gadget if it only spoils your ride for you.
