Seems the key to all these proposals is bike sharing. Been going for decades in Holland. Seeing it increasingly in the big cities like London (branded by Barclays I think) and New York. And I saw tender documents a week or so back from Durban Municipality to advise on a bike sharing and implementation scheme from the private sector.

 

Should work in SA, as we have a lot of involuntary bike sharing. Just kidding. Not sure I'd like a shared bike to commute. Set up, own preferences, etc.

In the '80's when I worked at Siemens Hoffman Strasse in Munich they had 'pool' bikes as it was such a big 'campus', generally cause it was such short distances size/preference didn't matter it was just better than walking. I guess the same would apply?

That video says absolutely nothing new. Just SRAM capitalising on modern trends in urban mobility.

 

I guess if it gets more people thinking of bicycles as transport, rather than toys, then good.
