I wonder which motor is the best "six"...Datsun or BMW.( reliability & potential ).

That's a Friday subject.

Obviously the BM guys are going to punt "their" motor, and the Nissan/Datsun guys theirs.

Just ask yourself the question, when talking about modifying a car to go bloody quick, which motors are named before any BM motor?

I'll tell you, the Nissan RB25/26 or the Toyota 1JZ/2J Z motors. Makes stupid power, and when done properly, very reliably also.Much cheaper to do than BMW motors.

Edit; My humble opinion.

I never regarded the Toyota motor as a very potent six. I googled same and noticed it was the motor used in the Supra....nice!

Also used in the Lexus.

There are many 2J Z motors running over 600+ kw with big turbos and no problems.

Thats an easy answer...

In this order: reliability, power, potential

Toyota 2jz - 600hp + on stock internals

BMW - Similar story as the 2j, depending on model can make plenty on stock bits...

Nissan RB - Expensive to get right and reliable
