And we're back to the cop out answer of "ride what you like"...

So we go from an absolute declaration to a cop out..............aibo, cyclists will buy into any fad.

Since you downloaded the report (I can't be bothered to download drivel even if it's free) what was the tension in the chain during these tests?

What was the speed of the chain?

At what temperature was the test conducted?

My intention was not to declare anything as fact, There is lots of conflicting sources of information on the internet and you can't believe everything which I don't, but this was one source of information where it seems they have put some fair amount of thought into testing. I'm still learning about my bike and the various facets

To try answer you questions. The report shows that they used 3 different chains, Campagnolo, SRAM and Shimano and the results are an average of all 3. Chain tension was simulated at 250 watts of rider output, they went as far as subtracting the four ceramic bearings in the equipment for the final results. I can only assume temperature was standard room temperature, didn't see anything about that.

I also notice they have done some updates on the report, Will try get to those some time.

250watts sounds impressive but it would be more impressive if it was generated under high torque hence the chain tension request.

High torque requires good film strength from a lube and paraffin wax does not have that. if the 250Watts is at speed then it sound more plausible

Dude don't bother, he isn't looking for facts or healthy debate....trolls be trolling

Squirt is too lightweight for mtb, Go Chainwax from Bearing-Man stays on and is cheap. But the best is Rock n Roll Extreme.

Where can I buy "Rock n Roll" in JHB?

Where can I buy "Rock n Roll" in JHB?

In pta, epic cycle

in jhb, cyclists workshop on william nichol or the lab, but they run out of stock quite quickly.

PS follow the directions on the bottle to the letter, you must use lots, and wipe the chain clean afterwards. I haven't looked back after using it and I have tried them all

Oh and for mtb, use the extreme one....aka rock and roll blue

The 250W is at 95rpm for the front sprocket which is very realistic for general riding so the chain tension is the correct one for evaluating the lubricants.

Same here, but it is touch and go when doing >75km on dusty roads. Also like the finish line green bottle. After J2C I won't use squirt again because of the mess it makes.
