It is most likely a reaction to carbs, and most typical of a reaction to wheat.

So if you are having e.g. toast as part of your pre-ride breakfast (or most any cereal for that matter), cut that out for 2 - 3 days and see if it improves.

If you had to ask that same question on the LCHF forum you will have a myriad of people telling you exactly the same thing - the phlegm is an inflammatory response to carbs of some sort ;).

This is not the kinda thing you can just spit out, its like cement lining my throat!

Will give the carbs/wheat thing a go, occasionally I do chow a jungle oats bar before riding don't know if that counts but even without that I'll have the same problem.

Will also try to use a different drink while I ride any have any suggestions?

Jungle Oats bars will produce slime (for me) every time. So will Coke, or any other commercial "energy drink" like Energade.

Skip the wheat the day and morning before your next ride and see - I am very keen to hear !

Difficult to recommend energy drinks as again they may have different reactions for different people, but stick with the well-known brands like Hammer, High5, 32GI and such - the more natural the better. Of course my real answer should be that you should try a Low Carb eating plan so you don't need to fuel with carbs on ordinary rides, but that's a whole other story ;)

It is from diet. We build up mucous because of allergies to things such as Diary and smoking. Also bread and sugar.

When you cycle it all loosens up and thats why it comes up. Do you also find that when you wake up in the morning you find it lying in your throat?

I would never seek medical advice for this, by medical advice I mean go see a GP. It is not something medicine can sort out in my opinion, but rather diet and habits.

Just wondering though what could one replace the normal recommended 'energy breakfast' of some kind of cereal and or toast with? Keeping in mind almost all would be non LCHF or 'ketosic' or whatever it's called where you use fat for energy or something ....

Not still 'wheat' based? Or am I just doff .....

Pastry based :-) lots of fats

Try the plain butter croissants not the ones with nuts and some cheese.... Euro style breakfast

Lots of people report good results on FutureLife, but the ideal breakfast would be something like eggs, cheese, bacon & bangers - minus the slice of toast underneath that !

edit : the croissants above are indeed made from pastry and pastry is made from flour, so yes, if you react to wheat you will react to that as well.

I use to have this problem for a few months after I had pleurisy.

Now I just have a very irritating nose running - my nose always run when I exercise...I have to carry hanky's where ever I go.

Try using a Neti pot - available at dischem.
