Awesome stuff gerhard and Izak! When I started cycling, about 4-5 years ago, I was a ripe 117kg. Some lifestyle changes and mostly constant cycling and I'm down to 87kg at the moment.

Cycling changed my life!!

AWESOME and well done!!

A few changes were necessary:

  1. NO junk food!! (after a race sometimes I will crave pizza but then make my own healthier dough and use healthy toppings.

  2. Replace carbs (potatoes, rice, BREAD) with more complex/healthier carbs (sweet potato, brown/natural rice and no more bread if I really must have bread I will mabake my own rye)

  3. I implemented a 5 min rule, after eating and still feeling hungry wait 5-10minutes and if you're still hungry get some. Most of the time though I'm not.

  4. Cut out red meat to a large extent replace with fish and chicken and I make the meanest black bean and ostrich patties if I feel like a burger.

  5. Loads of greens (luckily I have always loved vegs)

Then really just training more structured. You have to bring in weight training as well as lean muscle burns more fat.

Train between 60-70% of your max heart rate as this is where you burn mostly fat for energy. More than that you start burning muscle and less than that you use more energy from glycogen stores in muscles.

And keep going at it, I got stuck on just above 100kg for probably 3 weeks or so and really had to keep my mind strong to get up every morning. But once I broke 100 it was such a boost that I went down to 95 the next month.

I always said then that I wouldlike to weigh 90 again as I have a muscular build anyway and will never be 75 or rather will look sick if I do.

I ave since broken 90 and want to get to between 83 and 85. I think that will be a good fighting weight.

Oh and don't believe in BMI calculators go and have it worked out by someone who knows and takes into account your build etc. As by those standards I am still grossly overweight which is K@K!! :)

And then lastly some grace to carry you through ;)

BELIEVE and ACHIEVE dont wait till next year. There is a time to let things happen and a time to make things happen.

NOW is the time to MAKE them happen!!!

That's where I am at the moment. Started out at 106, hit 99.5 and then got injured. Now I'm hovering around the 100/101 kg mark and trying to get back into structured exercise again. Plus I kinda went "off plan" and started snacking badly again.

Bad move.

Hope to be 95 by Christmas... I have a month. I can do it... 6kg's...

Well done man!! You look like a totally different person

And I FEEL like one!!!

Man I cannot describe the feeling, the confidence!!!!

Like Billy Connolly once said even overweight people have that time when then stand in front of the mirror and go: "F.... Killer!!"

Imagine how you will feel after losing 20 ;)

Cut out the snacking. Throw the **** away so there are no temptations and fill yourself with nice lean protein and fibre which will make you feel fuller and more satisfied.

If you believe it you can and will achieve it!!

Make the sacrifices and enjoy the fruits of your labor man!!!

Yeah. That's the plan (again)

Just about to go walk into MrP sport and get a weight kit for the office, just so that I can get in a quick sesh or 2 per day when I'm inundated with admin...

as I said before, I was 112kg last November. Currently stuck between 94-95kg, just can't seem to break 94kg. but I am riding a lot more, but the odd milk stout or 2 during a Wednesday night braai keeps me human.

cheers, good luck cpt.

Damn, I miss proper guinness... On tap, left to settle properly 2/3rds poured and then topped up witha good foamy head.

The bottled & canned stuff just doesn't taste the same, as much as they try.

:o

Get yourself checked out, milk stout is like manna from heaven :D

Tell you what! We have a braai tonight so I will go buy some stout and try it again tonight. Which one/brand should I get?

Well Done. Went from 100 to 85 as well a couple of years ago but struggling with the last 2-5 kg. Also Wife does not want to loose any more so always have something to eat handy.

I have the exact same problem. Got my weight down to 85, now my wife says I'm too skinny. I think I could still lose a few kg's

Unfortunately, she knows I have an incredibly sweet tooth, so she makes sure there is always something tempting lying around.

I resist most of the time, but everyone has their limits.

Women. No understanding them.

I drink either the Castle milk stout or buy a Guiness or two. The Castle route will be cheaper though should you not like it ;)

Yeah what's up with that, same issue here ... ex-gf said the same thing ..... please note the EX ;)

Shame no I'm sure she didn't mean it badly...

I luckily don't have a sweet tooth. Once in a while I get a craving for dark chocolate then I buy a big slab and finish it after a loong ride. But then I'm sorted and I don't have to feel bad about it.
