I must give another big thanks to the guys at at Stoke Suspension Works, excellent service and I would certainly recommend them for anyone is CT needing a fork serviced.

A lot of mechanics and bike shops can certainly learn a lot from you guys in customer satisfaction & service.

I decided to service my own fork last night for the first time (been serviced before but not by me) - 2011 Talas Fit 120-140.  Super easy and hassle free.  Took me 45minutes - longest part of this dedicated to watching the youtube video, wiping hands to pause and play sections and to figure out what to do with my bike once the fork came off - as I put the fork in the workstand.  Oil was muddy colour, wiper foam rings brown and grimy, but the seals still perfect.  Cleaned everything, changed oil, set up to weight and after reassembly the fork feels buttery smooth.

Also gives you the opportunity to clean and service your headset, so its a win win.

Cost: R180 roughly for 500ml of fork oil, R70 for brake cleaner to clean the inside of the lowers and half a roll of two ply toilet paper or kitchen towels and all sorted.

Hi guys, I need to service the front forks on my trance. Just wondering which bike shop has the best price on the fox dust wiper kit... Any suggestions? I see buycycle has them priced at R339. Is there a better deal anywhere?

How sure are you you need it?  I risked it, not buying the kit before opening, but had no problems in reusing my seals and dust wipers after i'd cleaned an re-lubed them.

what weight fork oil did you use?

Nox, careful of reusing seals when the foam rings are contaminated. If there's mud inside the fork, the seals are shot and will be letting dust through. Give the fork another oil change in a month's time and you'll see what I mean.

ALLMTB, the best substitute for Fox Green 10wt is Bel-Ray 10wt fork oil. You'll find it at your nearest moto shop.

That's the one I got - sorry, thought 5wt seemed wrong, but could not remember.

I let the dust wipers soak in oil, then cleaned them properly, so they were all nice and white again, soaked them again, and re-installed them.

I'll do the next big service after W2W and then do wipers and seals.

For now I'm pretty happy with the outcome!

Cool thanx for the info guys.

I have some 7.5 weight fork oil at home, would that be too light?

Droo, please advise?

I would assume (and this is guesstimations) it is usable but that your fork will have a lighter feel and a faster rebound, so air pressure and your settings on rebound would have to be adjusted accordingly.
