the point is that if other trail users keep a lookout for these obstructions (and those left there by nature) and clear them the chances of me loosing my front teeth is much less. Is the object to catch the guy or to prevent this from happening again? Orginising a stake-out will do very little to change the culprit's behaviour.

I am not commenting on the "stake out" as I thought any connotation to the word Steak was a "no-no" in the cycling world :), but more that polite posters would not make a difference to someone who is intentionally doing this to the trail.

A poster with a pic of the person/persons doing this to the trail with a tag along the lines of "We know who you are and what you are doing" would be more effective.

A little story for your Monday.

A few years ago I used to drive to work and parked on the street, stopping just in front of a No Parking zone. There was another driver who would come to in after me and started putting posters on my cars window with glue telling me to move forward and park on the no parking zone so that more cars could pull in behind me. I waited the one morning, saw who it was and which car, I in turn put a piece of paper under that persons windscreen wiper saying I know who you are, where you work and which car you drive (I also noted what that person was wearing that day) and asked that the person refrain from putting notes on my car and should anything happen to my car the same will happen to this persons.

Needless to say that was the end of that!

[/Quote] if the culprit is caught after a successful stake out, we photograph its face, it will then know that we know who they are & hopefully where they live, this will deter them the next time they think of placing logs in the pathway.
