During the Kormorant my fianc? (Joanna) went to the Championchip VAN to buy a chip 40 min before the start of the Elite ladies group.<?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

The guy at work said he was too busy and she should come back in 30 min. 30 min later the guy was on the phone and making a sign to Joanna to keep quite as he was in a bit of panic as things were not working properly.

So 30 secs before the start Joanna interrupted him again and he gave her a timing chip and she had to rush to write down her details ? meanwhile the elite ladies and vets had already left and she had to go ever the timing mats and chase the group which she caught before Hekpoort.

Why did he not give her a chip earlier? Why does championchip only have ONE guy at a race? (Winningtime always had at least TWO people present NO matter how ?small? the race)!!

All this caused unnecessary stress and a waste of energy chasing the bunch ? in short it?s a REAL disgrace! So unprofessional - they should be there for us cyclists!!

Luckily she managed to catch up and stay with the front elite ladies ? but unfortunately an MTN girl?s chain got stuck with 2km to go and she fell over and Joanna could not avoid her and flew over her with lots of bruises on her thigh, shoulder, back and a black eye ? We fixed her and the bike up and she managed to finish 7th in the Emperors classic on Sunday, but could barely walk after the race.

I just hope Championchip will NOT under staff for any future race!

Hey, glad to hear she could race again on sunday. Her leg/kniee looked a bit sore after her crash! Hope she recover well. Never got the name of your her at the race. She did pretty well during the race and can climb pretty good too. I was the guy that brought back her bike behind the medics.

And ya, normally they have 2 but sometimes only 1 person at champion chip. So sorry to hear about that.

Hey Witrot, <?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

I never got your 'real' name either and thanks again for your help!

My name is Tijl and I've been prepping Jo(anna) for the ladies elites since last year. She?s been cycling for just over a year now and it?s only her third elite race, but as the results show she?s incredibly talented and not shy to work in the bunch. She still has plenty to learn and needs to get stronger if she wants to beat the top ladies (but we?ll work hard to get there) - the most important thing is that she loves racing/cycling. She was determined to race on Sunday.

Its all about planning!!!! Why leave important things like this to the last if they can make a difference!!!!!!

Cool. I'm Wilbert or you can just call me witrot in general as its one of my nicks. Good luck for her for the year futher on.

While on this crash.

Can anyone tell me hows it going with Chrissie Viljoen as she got a couple cuts from the crash, not too serias but painfull as from what i've seen. And was she able to ride on Sunday at least.

Mini hijack - but also about ChampionChip. Please explain the meaning of 'net' and 'gross' in this context. These are Jamie Ball's results. He won the Elite race, but how come he is 4 of 95 (net)

Category (Gross):1 out of 95
Gender (Gross):1 out of 1077
Over All (Gross):1 out of 1306
Category (Net):4 out of 95
Gender (Net):7 out of 1077
Over All (Net):7 out of 1306

Uhm. i think Gross is batch start time used and Net is time you go over mat till you finish, example. If you go 6 seconds later than 1st guy over mat at the start and finish exact time together, than your Net is 6 secs faster. Something like that

They only write down time and numbers of the elite ladies/men to sort out prizes. I actually lost my timing chip during the emperors race and got a DNF status - really weird cos my chip was on a plastic bike mount on my hub at the start, even the plastic was gone ... they DID NOT take my number/time down when I finished Unhappy

I agree it's all about planning - but only noticed on Thursday eve ... and it was impossible to get one on Friday! We learn as we grow older ... Flemish Lion2008-02-12 01:30:57

Flemish, that's why I don't do the "plastic mount" thingy!!!  Wear it around the ankle (I know they say I shouldn't).  The mount thingy breaks easily!!!

Why stress about timing chips if memory serves me right the elite ladies race is judged and not timed. Often the elites will not even use chips.

Actually there is a lot of elites that do ride with one and the race is judged and timed!!!!! So i don't know where you get this statement from as all riders must ride with one. There was a time when it was said that the elites don't have to use chips, but that was years ago!

If there is queries you can actually use the chip time as evidence, which has been done couple times in the past.

Witrot, David#7 is right, I've spoken to CSA and was told in so many words that the elites don't have to use timing chips.  I find it very unfair, because that's why we had to (for example) postpone and wait for the prize giving to start at the Bakwena race, many of the elites did not use their chips and the officials had a hard time to figure out who finished where!
