How do you know what your calorie intake er day should be? And also how much calories you need to use in a ride, race, run and cardio?

Then how to you transfer your menu to calories? If i have meal a its x and meat b is y?

Im trying to balance my eating out so i get what i need and not over or under eat?

I also investigated the count of daily calories with a couple of apps. I did it for a week, from there I knew pretty much what are the foods to stay away from and what to focus on. So do it for a week and then design your meals around that information. If you have a mac, try Calories2, its a bit buggy but free, and gives you some awesome info/custom food options.

Keeps track of what you eat and what you burn gives you a deficit at the end of the day. Very helpfull and as someone else said, if you do it for a week you know more or less. After that I only did it say ..... once a month. Just to make sure I am still on track.

If you have to record everything you eat, you will be shocked at all the stuff going in you mouth as you are suddenly more aware.

The easiest way to get enough and not too much calories is to listen to your body, your body knows what it needs.

So if you are hungry, eat and if you feel you are full, STOP.

All this goes hand in hand with eating the right types of food, wholesome food. It doesn't help you eat Coco-Pops at breakfast when you could be eating last nights leftovers of meat and veggies...

A good way to consume enough calories is to eat good fats like olive oil and avos, even the fat on your meat (EDIT: and nuts but not peanuts, a peanut is a legume not a nut.) Good fats play a very important role in nutrient absorption as well as overall health. But vegetable oils are bad, ie oils high in Polyunsaturated fats (Poly fats cause inflammatory responses on your system) so opt for saturated fats and Monounsaturated fats specifically.

So eat right and the rest will sort itself out.

My fitness pal is great... The main benefit for me is the motivation it provides.... Before eating a big mac I always check how it's going to effect my fitness pal stats  9/10 I'll give it a skip...

As for how much calories to burn, I find that if I burn over 1000 calories I see quick and steady results, anything less will keep the weight stable, but losses are much less noticeable. I eat around 1500 calories a day. I burn around 5000 a week in training. Seems to be working for me.
