Brake fluid on pads

Is there any remedy? when I bled my brakes I messed some brake fluid on my brake pads, now its not braking properly and making one hell of a noise - Tektro brakes

If they haven't been exposed for too long, wash them with water (Brake fluid is water soluble. Mineral oil isn't though). Otherwise use brake cleaner. If all else fails, new pads.

If they are sintered (not resin) you could try and heat them over an open flame (metal side towards the flame) to try and steam out the brake fluid.

Leave them overnight in surgical spirits, let them dry fully, renew the surface of the pad using 400 grit water paper on a piece of glass - and that is as good as you will get them.

 

You must also lightly sand the surface of your disks and clean with surgical spirits/isopropyl alchohol, and then re-bed the brakes according to manufacturer instructions.

I've put them in a bit of methylated spirits before and set it alight and let it burn for about 15 - 20 seconds. This will burn off any contaminant. Has worked for me.
