Mich , why not find a quality club in your area, and ride the short rides IE your 30km and 40mk with them on weekends, you will quicly progress to racing the 50+km races and before you know it you will be training 100km rides to race the 94.7km

thanks guys, will check out that website

there is a cycle club near me, but i don't want to be a nuisance and slow everyone down because of me...

Any club worth its membership fee should have a A-D, sometimes E group. The lower ones are normally the slowest and shortest.

The club should be able to cater for the newer rider, and have a slower group that you will be able to ride with, check with them, You will see that your riding will improve very quickly when you are able to go and ride with the club and do 50km on each day on the weekends.

Mich, don't worry. i seriously started cycling last year july. also struggled to do more than 40km at a time. lucky for me i had some very nice people (wolverine and co.)helping me out with advice and lllloooootsss of  encourgement. i also started spinning during the week and did whatever i could over weekends.  i did my first 100km race (bakwena) a week before the 94.7 last year. was able to finish the 94.7 in under 4hrs.

now i have met a lot of other hubbers continuously helping me out with advice, tips and encouragement. and the friendships that came with it was added bonus.

so, before you know it, you'll be doing your first 100km race and then go from strength to strength.

Mich if your goal is the 94.7, which is after winter, you will loose a great deal of fitness if you don't put in kms, try get on the trainer during the week in winter and on the road on weekends, i know it's cold but you warm up quickly....have fun

Take it from a true Rookie....Wink Practise at least 3 days per week, do all the funrides possible and you will get there.

I only started Jan with 10 k's and can do now 20 within 1 hour. Going March to do 30 k's!!!!!
