XX1 durability?

So I've been running XX1 for 1000km's now. I've just replaced the front 30T chainring (with about 900k's on it), as well as the chain. Measuring the chain shows no unusual wear, but I figure I'd rather replace it prematurely than deal with other issues.

With my previous XT and XTR I'd normally run a chain for between 1000-1500k's, and I'd need to replace the cassette after 3-4000 k's.

So first ride out with my new chain, and its skipping on the 42 at the back. After only 1000k's of use!! And that cassette costs as much as a small car! Not impressed right now. I'll be visiting the LBS soon to get a complaint through to SRAM.

My normal riding is most of the Tygerberg trails, so mostly loops that consist of a steep ascent followed by a nice downhill. I've been running a 30T up front, but still spend a lot of time in the bottom 3 gears on the ups, with not much pedalling on the downs.

How's everyone else's experience of XX1 durability?

You certain it's a worn cassette? Maybe something innocuous, like slight change in RD cable tension or upper limit or something dumb like that.

If not, then yes I agree with your sentiment. 1000km on a R4k cassette is not acceptable.

I've been riding XX1 for 8 months, including the Epic and various other races, and has only replaced the chain once (three weeks ago). The chain ring and cassette is still perfect.

Used to much more wear previously riding XTR and XX

How many k's you have on that cassette and chainring then? I need to build up some ammo for my complaint.

when changing to XX1 do you need to rebuild your wheel with a new hub to accomodate the 10t small chainring?

How do you choose between the 170 and 175 based on your lenght?

Whats the feedback ont he above complaint was th eissue resolved?

@ heel drop.

Only need to change hub if there isn't a free hub body conversion for your hub. More manufacturers are making those now, but there are also workarounds that give you a 10ao cassette with the sane lower range just lacking the 10 tooth at the High end.

As for 170/175 that's a setup issue and also more of a personal preference thing.

Actually I have just crossed the 1000km mark and mine is as good as the day I got it. also the past weekend was the muddiest race I have ever done and I can honestly say that I did not have a single problem with shifting/chainsuck or dropping chains etc. Ill check the chainwear later but all seems fine still. What size blade do you ride at the front niterider? Also dont you maybe want to wait and get a xo1 cassette (they are waaaay cheaper)

I have done more than 6000km on the same cassette and chain ring, and as mentioned before, only put on a new chain once.

Waiting for XO1 to replace the cassette

I sent my chain and chainring off to the agent via my LBS last week, and they've given me a new chain and chainring. They want to inspect my cassette before doing anything about that, so that will go off to them tomorrow.

Which is making me guess that there were problems with the first batch of chains.
