A friend of mine is rebuilding an old bike of his. It has a sealed cartridge BB system which is absolutely shot couple with Hollowtech cranks (I assume Hollowtech 1?)

Where can one get one of these units, without having to upgrade or replace cranks?

Is there otherwise the slightest possibility of cracking out the old bearing? I'm fairly handy and if its possible I should be able to do it!

I'm sure someone has one in the back of there cupboard otherwise

Trying to keep it on a budget.

Also looking for a way to get the old ones out but need a sacrificial old one to try on first.

Seeing this one is gone, I might have a go at it any way, the worst that happens it goes back to the trash where it is destined any way. Seems a waste that the entire shaft etc. all gets chucked!

If I understand correctly, you're trying to recondition the old one. If you've worked out how to get the old bearings off, take them to Bearing Man - they should have what you need.

Those BB's arent that expensive. When you order make sure you get model number and length right. Some are for mtb and some with triple cranks. Make sure of Octalink version as well. The splines are different, hence the correct model number. CRC has plenty of those BBs

i striped my isis BB of my old bike as well but it was for n FSA crank. I pressed mine apart in hydraulic press and tried to get bearing from BMG. No Luck. there was bearings that have the same ID but checked that the outside race ways was thicker, the ID of the outside raceway was the same. it looks like the outside race way where grind-ed on the outside or machined. all i did feather was to remove seals with a needle and was it out with some paraffin and let it dry out and re-grease them and put the seal back and i assembled it. it was smooth again. and still smooth after 2 years.

Don't try to take it apart with hammer if you just want to clean it.
