Giant TCR composite 2 vs. Pinarello FP2 frame

Due to unavailable stock in my size for a 2013 Giant TCR composite 2, my LBS offered me to build up a bike on a Pinarello FP2 frame (supposedly 2011 or 2012) with the Giant’s parts for the same price. Is this frame better than the Giant’s and would this be a smart move? I’m new to road cycling and would like to keep the bike for some time.

Ride a Giant TCR comp 2 and am very happy with it

If I am not mistaken the Pina frame is more expensive and would think at least as good. Just not sure whether there are any compatibility issues between Pina frame and Giant components. Am sure some Hub fundis can advice

I doubt it, especially considering his LBS is gonna give him a complete bike at the end of the day. There shouldn't be any compatibility issues. The only thing is the BB, which is Italian thread, and still not a problem, as you just get an Italian thread BB for the crank.

And a much better frame in my opinion. And better looking too.

Thanks for all the responses thus far – keep it coming. Just for clarity, the Pinarello is also a carbon frame and has a carbon steerer. The TCR has an aluminium steerer but carbon fork. My concern is that the FP2 has been superseded by the FP Due. I would like to know if the FP2 is still an up-to-date frame especially if one is to compare it with the TCR comp.

Yes it is. It is still a fantastic frame. Yes, it has been superseded by the FP Due, but that hady takes away from the FP2's capability. If you have a need to for absolute latest and greatest, and the FP Due is constantly gonna be in your mnd, then by all means get the TCR.

In my opinion, the FP2 is a better frame than the TCR, and if you go for it, you shall not regret it. Spending money on a Pinarello is one of the most rewarding things, cause they always return the favour. (Yes, I'm a fanboy)

Without challenging the integrity of your LBS, do your homework and check the serial number with Pina.

Personally, having owned and loved a Paris, i'd be very careful about buying a Pina again unless i was convinced of its origin.
