i am running a 32x17 for this year. Hoping its not as hot and windy as yesterday!!

my ratio is 1.88, so hopefully only 1 part pain to 1.88 parts fatigue!!!

I would give it a go at 34x18 on a 29er or 34x16 on a 26er - might be a couple of short climbs towards the end that would create some issues - but they are steep, short and slow - and with any traffic you will be pushing anyway...

Take a nice pair of comfortable walking shoes for Bartletts  . (Friesland and Mike's hill will also give you a valve bounce early on) Oh and that k@k dirt/tar road after the Ark and don't forget Six Pack. Those were terrible hills WITH gears.... but I am classified as a Buffalo :whistling:

Remember to gear for the climbs  Good luck!!

thanks for the replies guys. I am looking forward to it, just hope this kewl weather holds. Going to run 32x17 on 29er. there are more flats than you think on hill2hill. I am not worried about the big open road climbs, I currently climb Friesland 45 seconds faster than I could last year on geared bike, so should be OK on those. The short steep ones could be the problem, especially with traffic, or if at all muddy.

Anyways, gonna just head out there an enjoy this race, in one gear. Should be a blast! :)

32 x 17 is the same ratio as 34 x 18 - think that will be a good ratio to use.

Correct. Its the same ratio I raced Hilton Dirt Fest on, and various training rides around Albert Falls, Cascades, Bizley, Karkloof etc, so hopefully it works out for me on Sunday.... in the heat...

Yoh, if you did that 75 at Hilton dirt fest on that ratio then big respect bru. Were some proper climbs on that thing.

Yes, the 75kms. In 2012 it was about 78kms, 1660m climbing, took me about 04h35. This year I rode again, but stripped a sprocket at 20kms, so had to bail. I believe the ascent was more or less similar this year.
