rouxtjie Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 I ride and race at races...as per dips and dangle. funny thing though, when I ride a race, I always remember it.
NotSoBigBen Posted September 13, 2013 Author Posted September 13, 2013 I have been known to enter a "race" or 2. But those are the exception. 99.99% of my riding is purely recreational. Not training for anything. Just me, on a bike, having fun. For me it's about enjoying the journey itself. Not about giving my all to make that journey as short as possible. So although I have entered 2 events this year (1x Sani2C, and 1x KZN DH provincial) I wouldn't say "I race bicycles" Your reputation is tarnished young man ..... Pieter1 Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 I enter a race every now and then purely to do a long ride. I only ride for the fun of riding so even the races are just fun excursions. Looking forward to the omni 24hr!! RockCoach 1

hayleyearth Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 Yes I do. When I started riding that is all I did (weekend after weekend I would travel anywhere from PE to CPT for a race) because I didnt know anyone in my area to ride with and it wasnt safe enough to go alone, so that was the only way of being on my bike. Now I do it to push my fitness a bit, because my usual rides are slow and fun and all about me trying new things, so I do races to push my fitness, work on speed and help with shedding a bit of weight DIPSLICK 1
Mojoman Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 Used to, had some fun experiences (and 1 miserable Magalies Monster!) but now I dont bother (money and time constraints), thankfully though I live in an area where there is plenty of safe riding to be had for nothing!
Karooryder Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 (edited) There are a few races on the calendar I try not to miss - mostly for sentimental reasons but also to push myself a bit harder than at an ordinary training ride; D2D, ARGUS, Amashova, 94.7, Kumba Iron Ore Classic, at least 2 of the MTN XCO Series etc. (This made me think of how our (or, at least my own) approach to races change.- Enter race to ride your bike.- Chase a better time to improve your seeding index (and eventually realise how silly this actually is).- Chase the sub-3 dragon (and eventually realise how silly this actually is).- Enter a race to ride your bike. ) Edited September 13, 2013 by Karooryder
