No expectation but it would have saved the event this negative feedback and his venue alot of face. He strikes me a "boer maak n plan" kinda guy....When life gives you lemons make lemonade...Rather see it as a opportunity.

I understand and agree but there may have been reasons why not and no-one is telling his side of the story (if there is one).

Sure...and concede. There may have been factors out of his control. Like I said, he is a "make a plan" kind of guy. I saw how hard he worked at joberg2c this year...setting up showers, getting donkey's ready for tired riders at glengarry...worked like a dog, always had a solution to a problem.

Just to be clear. How many of you Negative Sally's were actually at the event?

I for one thoroughly enjoyed the event. And get this... I was actually there!

Was super keen to do the event, love endurance / 24 hour events. But this one got a bad rep from last year so didn't bother.

I think there are a few issues at hand here.

1. For starters, I have been at some 24 hour events that were far worse than what this event was, even with all it's problems.

2. What are the public really expecting, are their expectations maybe too high or are they being reasonable, so I suggest that Omni actually get a Q and A thing going where they ask the riders what they expect and they see if they can accommodate them .

3. Are there ever only pure angels where more than 2 people get involved in something ?

4. what is king at a 24 hour, the route is king and my gripe here is that 12 k's is too long, I am a 8-9 km. lap kinda guy.

However, the route was great to ride.

5. What was 24 hour all these years, the year end function, it was never an event you took your family to expecting top class catering, it was always a case of bring your skottels, tents , family and food and make a weekend of it.

Few problems I see and one of the reasons I reckon this is getting watered down.

Too many people want to "organize events" nowadays.

These people always bicker about everyone else organizing events, so will go out of their way to find fault.

This country really can't sustain that many 24 hour events, the level of competition at the top level has ben watered down and it's difficult to get decent sponsors on board because every tom dick and nancy that has an event is looking for sponsorship.

All in all, 24 hour today is not what it was in the past.

Did I enjoy this years event ? Other than us not being able to finish as we had wished for, I immensely enjoyed it.

I WAS there last year maxanoos this year i was not there due to injury, was part of the sponsor ship last year(indirectly) but close enough to know what happened and who was to blame, and why that sponsor pulled out this year ,,,my mate who i rode with last year that rode this year said same problems different year as did more than 1 other person,,,,,,,personally the food did not effect me as i bought my own for my riding, family made there own plan 2 kids and wife driving around sorting themselves out in that area at night not ideal,,,,anyway as my first post said i know eric well and all i say is plans could have been made, as rouxtjie said given lemmons make lemonade

and lastly i say if you going to provide a venue ITS YOUR "NAME BRAND" on the line,,,,

I can't comment on the other issues, but a 12km lap should be seen as the minimum length. While I can appreciate that there are people there to have fun and have a blast with mates, dumbing down our courses further isn't good for the future of the sport.

And a general rule of thumb - take all your own supplies to a 24hr event - consider any catering a bonus. That way you'll never be disappointed.

I don't get what you are saying here, you are directing this fun thing at me as well as the catering thing.

Did you read properly or not ?

It's also not a case of dumbing down the course or did you forget the toll Rietvlei took that first year when it rained like that ?

I didn't see it was you - and when I did, I edited it. Not directed at you at all. Aimed at 24hr events in general in SA.

Rain is rain - and will mess up (and ruin) any course. Rietvlei was by no means a tough course, much like Oak Valley and Malmesbury. I'm not trying to sound like an arrogant d!ck, and I can appreciate that there is a balance between difficulty and the fun factor, I just feel that MTBing in general in SA has become too obsessed with manicured trails and fast, flowing single track. We need to toughen up!

I think the technicality of the course was spot on for a 24 hour race. But the 12km lap did make planning nutrition a bit tricky. 35 to 40 minutes are just short of the refueling mark for me and 2 laps between stops puts me way past the point where I needed nutrition, BUT, it's part of the game and made pit stop planning as important as figuring out the right line at that last climb up from the river.

Sorry for those that aren't happy about the weekend, but we had LOADS of fun during the event! Had two incredible bacon and chicken rolls from the caterers during the bike burn, didn't even realise they disappeared afterwards. Don't care as we brought tons of food and drinks as if we were camping full scale. It was our first event and can't complain even a bit.

Thanks everyone and see you guys next year!
