Hello All,

I am new to MTB world and very excited to start my off-road adventure as my hobby on weekends.

I read alot of topics and discussion regarding selection of beginner MTB but still not sure to go for 26' or 27.5 or as preferred 29'.

Lots of local shops in PE advise me to go for 29er.

As I am 6 ft 1' and quite muscular guy.

Please help me out getting in one direction and also advice me of good beginner level MTB (under 8K ZAR) choices. (any good place to buy in PE)

Your valuable suggestions will be highly appreciated.

Thanks.

Look at Momsen. Good value for money and they are proudly a PE brand. Another value brand is Axis, they are linked to Scott and also designed in PE.

Cyclopro sells both.

When it comes to service, Cyclopro and Coimbra are the best.

Hi all, also interested in getting a mtb bike.

I would like a 26" hard tail, aluminum bike. Since I am a roadie and would like something different from 29" rims.

Only thing I have no clue what is a good front shock and what are decent rims. I have an idea which is a decent group set. Although I see a lot of 3x10 in shops, is it possible to get 2x10 or 2x9.

Would not mind second hand either.

Any suggestions?

Sorry for hi jack.

Consider this: Given the big hype around 29" mountain bikes at the moment retailers are sitting with a lot of 26" stock. There are some real bargains to be had! (26"). What I am trying to say is that R X000,00 buys you a much better specced 26" bike than 29".

29ers have been around for long enough for this statement to no longer apply.

Might not apply any more but the basics of economics 101 still rules, and that is supply and demand. Demand for 29" bikes are high so prices are high. Look at similar specced 29" an 26" bikes and you will see up to 20% cheaper on certain 26" bikes.
