He Ain't Heavy, He's My Bike
Just before the Tour de France, French magazine Le Cycle visited each team mechanic at the d?part and asked if they could weigh their bikes on their own independent scales. The following provides some interesting reading.
Coming out with the lightest bikes at the Tour was of course Gilberto Simoni?s beautiful Scott CR1, Rasmussen?s Colnago Extreme C and Popovych?s Trek Madone 6.9 which all barely scraped past the UCI?s limit of 6.8kg. Taking the bidon cages and computers off any of these bikes and they may be in trouble with the man?

The heaviest bike that Le Cycle weighed was Erik Zabel?s, Colnago Extreme Power which came in at 7.795kg. Clearly Erik wanted the stiffness and reliability over the weight saving that KOM winner Rasmussen prefers. Of course all these figures are subjective in the fact that different size bikes were weighed from the different teams, but it still gives you a good idea of just what the pros are actually riding in the Grand Tours. Another interesting fact to point out is the difference between Lampre?s Damiano Cunego?s bike and Cofidis? Ivan Parra?s machine. They both have the same frame, but the equipment they chose to equipe it with varied the weights significantly.

Seems they did not weigh the R3.  I have seen photos of Basso on it in the GIRO with metal plates fitted below the bottle cage to get the weight up.

I just think you must look at the sizes of the frames. Simoni's frame is almost a tri-cycle size compared to other riders. Even his C'dale was soo lite they had to add weight to make it legal.

Na! mine weighs over 7kgs....I'm more into a stiff or rigid frame. I believe the lighter the frame the more in flexes... smiley1.gif

Ja, must say that TT frame I bought off you is nice and stiff. (and it will need to be for the next few weeks... as my hand is in a cast for 6 weeks, I'll be busting my b@l$$ on the indoor trainer for the next 6 weeks) - the TT bars and bar end shifters are also coming in quite handy to make me a bit more comfortable on the bike.

Got any nice pictures of your new "steeds"?
