DB' date=' it's still fun afterwards (that's now IF I survive...)when my nerves calmes a bit.

We also just seem to click! Big%20smile Me and Chilli could stand the first time we rode together!! Impressive huh??!!!LOL

Bee - that is quite impressive! Being the stoker, I just want to know if your stoker's knees didn't bump against the handle bar when standing. Having long legs I have to lean back in order to stand up. This is not very comfortable and I don't think I'll be able to do it for very long.

The tandem was bougth by my partner with his wife in mind as a stoker. Do you think the frame could maybe be too small at the back?

Big%20smile, Well I'm a bit of a kort gat, soooo..... I don't really have any problems with bumping my knees. I think maybe the tandem might be a bit small yes!!! hehehe!LOL

Eliminator, we ride an XL-M tandem.  Beee's road bike is a size small, so the medium at the back is just right for her - so she doesn't knock her knees.  The XL at the front however is a bit big for me, my single bike being a medium frame size.  We've put on a very short stem though and narrower handlebars.

Your tandem is probably too small for your stoker at the back, but best if you ask these technical question to Mdk

The Big H Tandem training tips for a mixed Tandem team (could work for MM or FF teams as well...... teeee heeee!!!!!!):-

1. Find a compatible Tandem partner. If you find the right one it will be Honeymoon all over. If not you will go right throught the divorce court before you can stop.

2. Remember that the stoker is ALWAYS right even in the small chance she might be wrong she is always right.

3. Get a suitable Tandem. I have seen too many couples on Tandems that are ill fitting thus producing a ill fated ride.

4. As with half bikes the tandem must be correctly set up.

5. Invest in good components right from the start. Even if you do this you will want to upgrade but that is part of the DNA structure of any cyclist....... he does not stop at traffic lights, he swears at taxi's and his only aim in life is to upgrade!!!!!!!

6. Get matching cycling outfits.

7. Put your names on the bike..... a silly thing tandemmers do that I have never been able to understand.

8. Get fit and build your base by spinning.

9. Ride as much as you can and follow any training program. By spinning you can tailor your effort for specific needs.

10. A "new" tandem team must talk a lot. The captain must give clear and definite commands of road conditions, gear changes, direction, speed humps etc. The stoker is your rearview mirror and must be very clear on what is approaching from behind. Later on these thing very mysteriously becomes second nature as you gel as a team.

11. A rearview mirror is always a plus as well as your stoker can do her make-up while cycling!!!!!

12. Most of all enjoy this unique way of licomotion as doing it two-together is the only way to go!!!!!!

Feel free to add other tips. I would like the watt guys (Peter the Great or Ursus Maximus and the smoke belching Diesel) to tell us if you can put their magnificent meters on a tandem. I am sure tandem cyclists can help ESKOM in their hour of need!!!!!!!

LOLLOLLOL

Yep, when you own Campag you gotta put in the hours at the office to afford replacements. Not that it's required often, but when it is the shop owners smile all the way to the bank.

Oh, and a general disinterest in BigH's general movements...

Ride ride and uhm Ride' date=',, contrary to popular belief, tandems CAN climb[/quote'] and can better with Q-rings

MDK, the last 2 races me and Chilli was sitting in this bunch where a mixed tandem had those Q rings on. The lady (stoker) looked as if she was swinging from side to side on her saddle. I take it this is from her saddle being too high (which it didn't really look to be) and not from the Q rings?

Swinging side to side - absofrigginlutley. After I had the Q-ring fitted my boet and I (200kgs without bike) now climb Hellshoogte without touching granny. Matterafact - we even did a few of D'ville rolling hills in big blade where normally we would be middle blade.

Give Ivan a call on 073 373 5999 and ask who the best installer is. My honest advice is get someone who owns a Q-ring fitted tandem to install them as the settings are very NB. Also dont go out on day 1 and race as you can end up damaging the group set. Changing from blades is much slower and DONT do it on an uphill.

My boet and I flying up Blouberg hill with a pomping South Easter at our backs tried to change from middle to big blade at about 45km/h and the pressure was just way too much - ended up stripping my gear lever. Cry
