I have been very happy since switching over. Not sure on all the rolling resistance theories. But I am certainly not slower.

And I feel more confident descending. Since I don't ride my road bike much other than a few races a year it suits me fine.

I have the gatorskins. There is a little tread there but not much.

I ride 25's and won't go back. The difference is significant and I put it down to the fact that most 23's are closer to 21 in reality. In theory the rolling resistance is better but obviously the weight higher. As for tread, you don't need any on a road bike, as long as there is some rubber over the kevlar or whatever and you don't get punctures keep riding. 25's are less likely to pinch puncture and you can safely ride at 6 bar for touring. No noticable difference in performance - I still get dropped.

I've also recently move from 23 to 25 and am finding the ride better and I'm more confident. not too sure about the age scale as I'm only 32.

Simple really:

Age 16-25 - 18/20mm tyres.

25-35 - 23mm tyres.

35 and over - 25mm tyres.

:-)

I'm going to report you for saying stuff like that! :cursing:

The fact that I ride 25s has nothing to do with age  and everything to do with wisdom. ;)
