Shebeen Posted November 13, 2013 Share Jaco Strydom passed away last Friday after a long intermittent bout with cancer.I’ve posted this in routes and trails, since he seemed to use his bike as a weapon in his treatment. He was either planning a trip or on one. I met him as part of my freedom challenge start group, he was riding with a broken collarbone but persevered against the odds to be last rider over the line. He was diagnosed with cancer later that year, but he did multiple BIG trips exploring. He circumnavigated Lesotho, he rode the long way from beit bridge to cape town and many more. You can read a lot more about him from his blog, a true adventurer.http://beit2cape.blogspot.com/

Shebeen Posted November 13, 2013 Share here's the Report he did from Freedom Challenge 2008 - it is in Afrikaans but has lots of pictures for those who don't verstaan. http://www.groep7.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/FC2008.pdf

Moriarty Posted November 13, 2013 Share Very sad news, this man was an inspiration to everyone who met him. He will be missed on the forgotten, seldom used trails of South Africa. Having ridden a couple of looooong days with him I can testify that he was REALLY a hard man. RIP Jaco.
