I met 2 Wannabee okes at a "water point" for a club ride on the Bilton vineyards 2 weeks ago on a Saturday morning. Maybe do that more often... They reminded me that Stellenzicht is closed and obviously also checked for my board.

They were quite big.

NICE TO HAVE MET YOU!! (I remember you now...) I was impressed by your climbing ability so early in the morning...

you were (by the way) the only guy we have come across from 6 -9:30...we moved on after that...

yes, we will be having these more regularly, and unexpectedly!!

Thank you for being a law abiding MTB'er...

I don't know if this is a problem specific to the Cape, but when I was at Magoebaskloof last week, according to notices on their boards and the websites - it clearly stated I needed to pay and get a permit in order to ride the trails, but the staff at reception had no clue. They just wanted me to sign an indemnity and told me to just go - i had to eventually force him to take my money and give me a receipt, so it's not just about bad attitude with cyclists but lack of communication of information IMO.

I'm from the area and most the the club know how I feel but feel I must share my part here. I'm niot a member for many reason but will only share a few.

1. If every where I ride requires n bike board my bike would look worse than an christmas tree. I DO NOT DO BIKE BOARDS.

2. This trails was start free and open for all. Then about year later some farms want indemnity forms because of the volumes. They then said oh ok then members only. THIS was going to always be problem.

3. The club started as road cycling club. Now membership which is mtb and road together. I don't do road, never have and never will have road bike so I will be paying for someone else road club activity. No way

4. They tried to convince me they route (90-95%) farm road is a bargain 150% the price my jonkershoek year permit cost. Really come on.

5. Some of the farms people have been riding for many many years before this club came along. Now they want to force them to pay..... not nice.

6. I have never seen or heard that the club give anything back into the farm community. So I believe all the farms care about is the indemnity. I think they care if they are member or not. In recently events at kliprug I believe the rouge riders is not the main reason for farms closing off but the incredible rudeness of some riders towards the farm workers/managers/owners/etc.

I have stop using these trails mostly expect for the bits where I have gotten my own permission to cross.

just my 2c.

I'll keep the second one under wraps until "official" - we will be negotiating again...i.e. begging not to shut us out!

Simonssig?? Jy bedoel seker Stellenzight?

This second farm closure is close to the first one...all I'll say for now...

Ok, cat is out of the bag...

https://www.facebook.com/groups/279283793200/

The Bilton farm (next to Stellenzight - already closed) is now closed to Wannabee MTB as of 31 Dec!! :cursing: :cursing: :cursing: This **** must stop now....

That should be no excuse, we spend how much on lycra, 32Gi, kit, parts etc., part with a little bit to join a club if you wish to ride on private property!

That is just it!! For the equivalent of a R1 per day /2 cuppachino's per month / 1.5 GU schets per month...you get access to thes wonderful ~100km of open space...

BUT do you think that all people will do that???

My mind is too small to comprehend this stupidity!! FFS i'l even sponsor your subscription...just PM me!!

Strava en epic het dieselfde effek op Lourensford gehad, Almal wou skielik van stellies af oorry tot in Lourensford. Maar dit gaan oor 'n bewarings area wat net beskikbaar was vir daai een dag.

dis hoekom Epic volgende jaar weer via grabouw gaan.

I don't want to be the harbinger of bad news, but steilte will have their share of self entitled rogue riders soon. Has been a supposed "grey area" for too long. And there are alternate access points as well.

Ja. We have a farmer with a paintball gun tho. But yes 100% agree with you.

Carrot or the stick. While I appreciate what the club is trying to do, making it another members only area and demanding membership is a pain.

I'm a member of 4 cycling clubs/associations, two of which are solely for land access.

Instead of trying to force people to join a club that they don't want to join, make it easier to ride your trails. Where are the day fees? A season permit?

And what about people who had permission to ride some of those routes before the Wannabees came along? I was riding those thoroughfares (with permission) before the Wannabees was a glint in Errol's eye.

I do not understand why legit riders get banned because of rogue riders. When a farm closes it`s borders to legit riders it does not solve the problem of rogue riders. The rogue riders will still be riding on the farms.

Ja, I run out of cable ties taking it off and putting it back on after a race... Something even that attaches behind the seatpost or onder the top tube...

O-rings and a small bracket to clip on maybe? Should take less than two minutes to attach.
