That is correct. Need to be a Club Member if you want a Racing licence. (ie Vets etc)

Yearly membership and Racing License ... not the same thing

Oh and you dont need a racing license to ride in the PPA league for Elite, SV or whatever either.

Everyone needs to be a member of CSA - R75 per year or you can take out a day permit for R30 per event.

(You dont need to belong to a club in order to take out yearly membership)

You only need a Racing License if you participate in in UCI sanctioned events in your category or for Provincials or Nationals. R350 per year.

You need to have your yearly CSA membership and belong to a club before you can get a Racing License.

In other words ... if you are part of the alphabet soup forget the Racing License or "full License" or any other license, get the R75 yearly membership jobbie, it will do you just fine.

The other reason some non-pro riders take out a license, is that in the bigger timed races, the licensed riders are seeded together in a separate group. You therefore get a different start time with the other licensed rides provided your seeding index is appropriate.

Open and other seeding simply requires the CSA membership.

There are pretty much 3 tiers of membership involved in the whole racing licence thing...

1. CSA (membership fee applies)

2. Provincial, such as CG (Central Gauteng) cycling (membership applies)

3. Club fees (whatever your annual club fees are)

And then it's still R350 for your licence itself. The whole thing is R500 per annum

If you in Gauteng and not interested in prov or national racing but still want to be seeded for races then you need only get a CSA and prov membership, total = R150.

You do not need to belong to a club.

Item: CSA Membership, R 75,00

Item: Provincial Affiliate Fee - Southern Gauteng, R 30,00

Item: Road Cover, R 60,00

I just renewed mine. took the road cover, geez its R165 for the year. its nothing. I was asked 3 times last year to show my licence (Day licence woudlve cost R105 for the 3)

And i belong to Bryton/USN, which is R1200 a year (but includes bib short/shirt and USN Starter kit)

I do archery and shoot guns, those alone amount to over R3000 for the year (Club, provincial, diff bodies), So an extra R165 aint gonna kill me

So what's with the R75 CSA fee plus R75 provincial fee?

The provincial fee came about from Central Gauteng who had a high percentage of CSA members but had no events at all - and therefore could not get the Rx per rider at each event. Therefore the only funding they could get was to charge a provincial affiliate to all their members. Since the switch to the 9 provinces, the provincial affiliate fee has remained and spread to all the other provinces!

In the past I had absolutely NO issues paying my CSA fees. BUT, after CSA decided to 'ban' all racing on Madibas funeral (Sunday) the Sabie experience race organisers had no choice but to cancel stage 3 of the Sabie experience team wannabe event. This effectively cost me R750 just for the 'lost race day'. This year I'll be paying my fees, but unwillingly!!!!!! If I had a choice I would not have paid, until I recovered R750 :-(

When the whole lic thing started it was mentioned you would not be seeded if you did not have a lic., but i have yet to hear of anyone who has been relegated to the back because they do not have one. The only thing they do, ...sometimes...rarely...almost never...is ask for your lic and if you dont have one need to pay for a day lic but still keep your seeding.
