I had a blast of a ride at Thandi on Sunday and was once again lank impressed with the Specialised The Captain 2Bliss tyres. They are tubeless(2bliss....took me a while to figure that out).

They really are sweet tyres. I don't know how it's possible, but I'm beginning to think that these just plain corner better than the Nevegals I had before. Maybe I need a refresher ride on Nevegals to confirm...?

Was ripping down the ST at Thandi faster than I ever have and these were simply awesome. Incredibly predictable and they really comunicate better than any tyre I've used....what I mean is you just know exactly how much grip there's left in them before they let go. And when they do let go, it's very progressive.

As said before, they roll better than the Nevs and are considerably better in off-camber situations.

And at only R300 per tyre, they're nearly a bargain!

If you really dont want any tubeless problems then do this:

1. Fit proper UST tires. (their beads and sidewalls are made for this)

2. use stans or joes.

3. have a spare tube on all rides.

If you follow these simple rules then you will not have problems.

I have been tubeless for over a year and have not had one problem or puncture. I have had many many thorns in my tires and also one major 6 inch nail (just pulled it out with a pair of pliers and the stans sealed it in no time). I also have not had to use my tube yet (touch wood)

I know lots and lots of guys that use normal tires and some tires work and others does not. They burp, run off the rims etc etc etc.

So my advice is to heed the 3 rules above and you will not look back.

....although it has been proven here on the HUB that the nearest elastic band goodie from a ladies poney tail will do just as good a job! I think the thin material covered ones would work best Wink

Hey' date=' that trick got me my 17 seconds of fame in bicycling and certainly scored some browny points with the nubile young female that donated said hair elastic Wink

I have used tubeless now for a 6 months, no problems so far.

I used a joe's conversion kit, no hassles at all in installing them. I found the TT Larsen UST LUST tires to be a lot heavier than if I had just used normal TT Larsen.

There is no real science to installing tubeless, just use half of a 16g 'bomb' to do the initial inflation, much better than trying to pump by hand to get the initial seal, if you dont have a compressor that is.

When riding I carry the small tubeless puncture kit, bombs, and a spare tube as the absolute last resort.

The feel is very nice when riding, I weigh 88kg and run the tires at 1.9 -2.1 bar.

Next set of tires will be 'normal' and not UST - saves some weight for racing.

Wouldn't expect anything less from a company that started off making tyres...

what is the weight and rolling resistance of those Spez Captain 2bliss tires ?

Weighed on Ultimate digital scale at 620g. Not bad for tubeless I reckon since they're 2.0 and the Kenda Nevegals non-tubeless 2.1 weighed in at 630g.

Can't obviously give you a figure on rolling resistance, but I find them pretty decent. Definitely better than the 2.1 Kendas I was running front and back.

On the packaging Spez rates it as a cross between an XC training and racing tyre.

It doesn't have a continuous run of knobs down the center like the Larsen do so won't match them, but it's pretty decent. Also have to point out that for a couple months I was running tubes and lately the front tyre was a Kenda Bluegroove 2.3 with DH casing weighing in at 1140grams, so obviously the bike is going to roll much better.

F_ing flies up the climbs now!

620g! that is very decent for a tubeless tire.

My Crossmarks LUST weighs in at a hefty 700g.

Might try some of these if they last long enough.

Does anyone know the kind of mileage one gets on these ?

I haven't done huge mileage on them....I don't use a computer so really can't tell. But using the most unscientific of methods, all I can say is that they seem to be doing well

I've done I'd guess in the region of 20hrs on them and they don't show any visible signs of wear yet
