Dropper Post

Why is that?

In short you lose the option to drop or raise the saddle in certain terrain as it won't be safe to do so. Completely removing a hand from the handlebar on the go is never a smart move and when the going gets tough you won't be able to drop the saddle quick enough.

The whole idea behind a dropper is to do it on the fly and at full speed, in a safe and convenient manner.

Whatever you do...don't go with a lever dropper.

I hear you... maybe I just need to try a little harder to make it less ugly.

Try fiddling between your legs going 30kph down a rocky downhill...

I kinda liked having an excuse to touch ye old bag. But seriously. Had the lever one and now have a remote and the remote is 1000% better.

Only ever had the remote - maybe I'm taking the convenience for granted.

Would definitely lose the ability to flick the seat up in a technical climbing section and would have to go through it standing.

Ah ok, I thought a lever one was still on the bar, but in a RoxShox RL type setup where you much shift a lever with your thumb, where I saw the pics of the other one looking more like a lefty button.

Thanks for clearing up.

started out like most people a sceptic to the idea of a dropper post, and was riding my AM bike with the seat at an in-between height ,good enough for the DH, and not high enough for the up.

I bought the giant dropper, as it is fairly cheap and is off-set.

Once you get used to it you cannot see yourself without it.

I dont have one on my XC bike yet though.

The only reason I got one was because CWC had the Joplin on special for R500.

When that one broke, I had no issue dishing out R2.5k for a KS, because I then understood the value of having one.

Anybody now of specials going on at the moment, would love to try one

I've owned 3 and despite having mechanical issues with the first 2, I have bought the 3rd one because when they work, they really make a difference.

I think this can be attributed to 3 reasons, e.g. A lower seat allows you to 1.) drop you centre of gravity which makes you more stable and also allows you to 2.) move your centre of gravity backwards which allows you to unweight your front wheel which makes a difference on rough terrain. Finally, 3.) it allows you to reduce the angle of your arms relative to the horizontal, significantly reducing the resultant forces.

These factors combined makes it a lot easier and importantly safer to desend, especially on technical terain.

Here is one of the best online local prices I've found on the Reverb

Pity no one has stock of the 420mm. It's only shipping in next Wednesday... And the prices have gone mad. Over 4k for the non stealth version....
