We have a track day on Sunday 19 JAN from9am-12pm.TRYING OUT TRACK WITH TRACKCYCLINGSAHow do I book a bike?1) Contact jaco@trackcyclingsa.co.za with your bike size and transfer rental fee once availability has been confirmed.When should I be at the Bellville velodrome?1) 9am on Sun 19 Jan. Pre-booking is essential.What should I bring?1) Helmet2) Shoes3) Own pedals OR we have Look Delta that will be fitted if it matches your cleats - confirm in advance).4) Cycling kit e.g. shorts, top and gloves.5) Warm clothes if it is a cool day e.g. track pants and top. Leg and arm warmers.6) Water7) Recovery drink and food e.g. coke/energy drink and banana/energy bar/gel8) Sunglasses with clear lenses will be beneficialWhat routine do we follow?1) Bike setup2) Ride etiquette and safety briefing3) Starting and stopping4) Getting on to and off the track.5) Warm-up for 15 minutes.6) Intervals.7) Timed 500m effort8) Cool downWho will help me?Instructors: Jaco Scholtz and Trackcyclingsa riders amongst them WP and Springbok level riders and our club captain for Cat C, Christhonie Geldenhuys.Club coach: Wynand Kapp is our new rider coach and Duncan McIntyre is our coach for Cat A and B.Helpline: Jaco Scholtz (jaco@trackcyclingsa.co.za)What are the next steps?1) New riders need to attend the track day before venturing into more advanced sessions. Riders usually sign-up and follow a month long program with the coach after the track day and will then be given the chance to ride category C at the monthly league event once the coach and instructor is satisfied with the progress.2) Club skin suits can be ordered monthly.3) Become a club member - There are 3 levels of coaching and one can choose the membership that suits one best. Club membership allows riders to use the track for training when it is available.Getting a bike?1) Riders usually look for a new bike whilst making use of the rentals for the first 4 weeks, but may rent the bikes for longer.What are the initial costs?1) Rental is R150 for the track day and includes coaching by instructors on your introduction to the track.Thereafter one can sign up for a minimum of four rental sessions for R600 under guidance of coach Wynand.EFT in advance with proof of payment is essential to guarantee rental bike. I know you can go to Hector Norris Park ( JHB South) - one of the main guys there ( if not the main guy) is Grenville Scullard.They are always keen for new blood & I'm sure they will accommodate you wrt a bike to try out... T-Bob Posted January 13, 2014 Share Jeez guys, great idea but why on a race day? It's the Tour de PPA on the same day. If you're looking to get more people along maybe a Sat might work better.
