Tayyib Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 purchased and had installed a new XT chain about 3 months ago.in that time the chain has broken 3 times already!!! Most of the time when pulling away from a stand still. I am cautious with my gear selection so as not to put to much strain on it the chain up till this evening has done probably 2800km.Why is this happening?Anyone had this problem?Is there an alternate chain I can use?any advice?
Gandalf Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 yeah that is weird. I snapped a chain but that was from standstill uphill whilst gear was changed. put on a link, haven't had a similar issue since. Maybe use a kmc chains, they are good quality for an ok price i believe

If so use a quick link to join Did not break where I joined it all on completely new links no where near the previous breaks. have already got two quik links from the previous breaks, probably time for a new chain! Yip that's the one, they had a special going for R199, I got the silver/black one, I see now goes for R230, which is still a very good price for that kinda quality, silver/black looks sweet and will be neutral for any bike colour

Tayyib Posted January 18, 2014 Author Posted January 18, 2014 Bit of feed back...took into the LBS,after a long discussion,they agreed to give me a new chain,and will return mine to suppliers.let's hope this lasts a bit longer! @brandonF have orderd the taya decca chain aswell and will give it a try.
