Specialized shock service prices

As advised by my LBS today in answer to my concerns about all the guess work going on amongst Hubbers.

The 50hr service costs R700-00 and you get your own shx’s back.

It is the 150hr where they sometimes swop out the rear shx but if I mark it and specify you want your own shx back it is not a problem. Maybe a day longer.

50 Hours is like every 6 weeks, 2 week day rides and then Sat and Sun@ R700

then R1500 on the 150 hour service, its gets heavy.

I think Stoked Suspension can do the 50 Hours Service for R325.00 {i speak under correction}, but the 150 hour service has to go to the Spec Agents.

then there is the logistics and waiting

We can only do out-of-warranty services - and then it's a relube on the shock and a lowers service and seal replacement on the fork.

The rest goes to Stellenbosch.

I've got my road bike and a hardtail for the donkeywork. I only use my Spez for racing and proper offroad rides.

Only the 1st service is after 50Hr , This is exactly the same on all other suspension services , all new shocks from 2013 that comes out of the factory comes standard with a thinner oil.

After 50 to 70 hrs you will have to change it.

I ride a Specialized S-Works Epic with a lefty (best of both worlds).

The service intervals on the rear brain after the 50hr service then goes over to a 150hrs before the next service - which is more than the standard Fox or Rock Shox - same with the lefty. that equals once a year.

The cost of servicing the rear brain 50hr is : R395

150hrs rear :R995

The Fork on the other hand is a little bit more expensive at 50hr: R525

150 Hrs Fork: R1315

This is the fixed price for the services.

Have you lost your mind...?!

Rather sell me your current TB frame and replace yours with a TB2.

I can't believe I was so weak ........

Ok so let's see if I got this. I am about to get a brand new camber it has no brain , do I still have to service the shocks both of em fox after 50 hrs and if so does it have to be the spez dudes? Surely the shocks are the same fox as any other mtb?. So why does it have to be done by them?.

Also my last mtb I rode for 3 years and never ever serviced the shocks , they operated brilliantly and reliably also fox. Is this service story a scam????

So I ride a 2012 Spez Stumpjumper... It has a Fox Fork and Rear shock ( the one before the CTD but also 3 settings) Sorry at work no bike in front of me to look.

My LBS can do my fork for the basic service.

But the rear has to go to Omnico for a service - it took almost a week to,get it back - (Omnicos choice of courier) almost didn't get it back - LBS sent their mechanic to fetch it as it had sat in their warehouse for 3 days before they even looked at it. The rebound flaked after 3 rides - LBS mechanic had to do temp fix cos no part in stock. Part arrived and mech fitted part with Omnicos permission so I wouldn't be bike less for another week. (LBS owner did offer his rear shock to me for a race incase service wasn't done in time as well)

Front fork in last week for a big service and lock out dial loose -more than a week.

Costs: minor fork was I think 150 and minor rear was 350 or there abouts.

Major fork was 750.

And to answer the Q is it necessary - well I definitely feel a difference!

Really dont know why you prefer a lefty over a brain shock.

I am not sure where you guys come on a 50 hr service. I have a few of these bikes and have always been told once a year or every 150 hrs. I sent in two bikes in December, both with Brain rear shock and fox front shock. The cost per bike was just under 2k each. I sent the bikes in on a Monday and they were sent to Cape Town for shock service and reassembled ready for collection by Friday.

If you don't like the the prices and service intervals, don't buy it and stop complaining. There are many other brands out there to buy.

I for one love my brain fork and the rear suspension. I am currently thinking of changing my RLC damper on my hardtail to a Terror logic. Just to get the same feel and convenience. The convenience of the brain/ Terra logic is what you pay for.

My rear shock was making a strange sound, I had done about 180 hours and knew it needed a service, but could not do without my bike or the expenses.

Monday I strip off the rear shock took it to my LBS and Wednesday morning get a SMS it ready, 48 Hours wow, R1000.00 a normal shock service fee, and it looks amazing, a total recondition, I don't think it is the same one I took in but I don't care, very impressed with the speed and service.

Hi Guys, I have a 2014 Specialized Epic which I got in December. Done about 30 hours on the road with this and then around another 30 hours off road this year. Does this mean that the Brain is due it's 50 hour service or can I push to 50 hours off road?
